Don't take my word on it, But i have heard that the MK8 and Maruauder TC's will work on our cars if we use the MK8 Flexplate.

A Marauder converter will bolt up to a 3.8L?
If so, that would probably be a heck of an upgrade, as the stall is nice for the price.

Or on an AOD with the wide ratio gear set (aftermarket) as it has the 4r70w input shaft.

I'd rather have a Marauder TC for the time and money it's going to take to put one in, it's not worth it to buy a 99 V6 Mustang TC, the marauder TC is a very good deal for the money you spend on one.

Green95LX,

Mind expanding your answer?

I am contemplating an upgrade to my TC. In the Tech articles it was mentioned the right match of TC can drop your 1/4 time by up to a second.

I'm not looking for a food fight here. Let's look at the numbers and then the reasoning for each choice.

I've got one additional question. What is there in the way of aftermarket TC for street and strip applicable to the 3.8L?

mark viii tc = 2200-2600rpm stall
marauder tc = 2600-3000rpm stall
PI stallion converter = 3200-3500 rpm stall (or more dunno)

marauder tc is best for a cheap choice. But if you're serious about going fast with a 4r70w tranny, then get a pi stallion converter for 3200rpm.

With any of these upgraded TC's is a new input shaft or anything else really needed besides the flexplate.(have a trans cooler and temp gauge) Also I was looking at 3:73 trakloc.

With these two upgrades should I see a good improvement in acceleration?

Thomas,

Is the 99 Mustang TC the same as...?

If it's different, where would it fit in the list you posted for stall range?

I agree with thomas here, if you're looking for a budget converter. The Marauder TC is the best value. If you're seriously into racing then look into a PI Stallion converter or a Morris converter, Which is what JL uses if i'm not mistaken.

agreed, maruader tc all the way with mark viii flex plate
along with the j-mod , a nice tranny cooler, 93 mark viii one piece aluminum ds and chip and you'll have a killer set up
all parts are from 150-320 price range

Whats the stall on a 99 v-6 Mustang TC compared to a 97 V-6 T-bird?

Thomas,

You used a range of stall speeds for the converters. Are they adjustable before installation or that's they way they work?

depending on the amount of torque you make will depend on the stall the converter engages at.
