yep, just like the title say's, me and a friend went to a Dodge dealership yesterday, well, my first impression was it's just a fancy black neon, but, that was soon changed with a nice little test drive, lol.

man, that thing just plain hauls a**, we were not even getting on it and it would just plain get up and go, like nothing, i couldn't believe it! i have been wanting one since they first came out, now i'm sold, i just gotta have it lol, any ways, heres what the specs and stuff for the SRT-4:

black exterior,
tinted windows,
17" wheels,
bfg g force performance radials,
black leather/cloth interior with those bada**ed "viper inspired" front seats,
power moonroof,
5 speed manual transaxle, i think it's a Getrag tranny,
2.4L turbo I-4 engine,

it also had the stage 1 kit already installed which consisted of:

bigger injectors,
new ecu with revised programming,
and some other stuff i forgot, lol

anyways it already had like 370 miles on it though, so maybe we can work out a deal with it, but on a bigger scale, for a new car with that much performance for 23 g's i think it is a winner, hopefully i can get it, if not more than likely my friend will get it which is still cool because i'll still get to drive it every now and then lol....later'z....:D

yeah they're quick, would i buy one??.....No
I'll rather have the $250-350 per month payment and add $250-350 worth of mods per month to my cat....

Whatever floats your boat right?

Those cars can reach 500 whp if tuned right and with enough $$.

Just remember to baby it off the line, I've seen plenty of those cars backfire and run like crap at the track because of extremely agressive takeoffs. If I was you, visit some SRT-4 forums to learn more about the car before purchase.

They are quick that is for sure.. A guy around here ran a 7.9 in the 1/8th with a bottle of N20.

Best of luck,

John

how reliable is that tranny??? how strong is the frame if involved in the accident?
i rather drive a slower bird for their class and comfort and safety rating.

I wanted to get one, but I heard that they are really small. I am 6'2" and it's hard to find a car that has a lot of headroom.

theyre actually a little different interior wise than the regular neons. the seat is moved back a good 2 inches farther than the normal neons. when i test drove one i liked it. but i thought 24g's was a little too much to spend. so i opted for the eclipse.

they are fast, but not insanely fast. most of the owners who post on srtforums are cocky little kids. they say they can run 13.8's stock, but theres 3 of them that are at my track that do consistent 14.2's with minor bolt ons. but with the mopar stage1 kit you can see 300hp and low 13's if you can drive it.

wheelhop sucks, but you get used to it. you learn not to hit full boost in 1st, or you can get a dual stage boost controller, and get a different wastegate spring that you can set to around 10psi. then you can just run around at 10psi for the daily and a WOT 1st gear pull with no hop, then hit 2nd and flick the switch for full boost at whatever youre little heart desires. of course a little suspension mods and polyurethane motor mounts will alleviate wheelhop all together.

but then again youre looking on advice for buying a 4banger on a forum that caters to the V8 is god attitudes. even though that little 4 can take out 95% of the ones here.

buy it if you got the dough for it.it sounds pretty sweet as it is, and with a little mods it can be a great car. just remember, its still a neon. keep that in mind and when people talk shlt it will be no big deal. just tell them a evo is a lancer, and a wrx is still an impreza.

knowing how to drive it is the key. My friends dad who has been racing for almost 20 years cuts consistant 13.5s with the Stage 1 MOPAR kit, short shifter and wastegate actuator thingy. He cant get it under 13.5...i think the weather here in s. florida alot to do with it. My only complaint about the SRT is the horribly narrow seat. The thigh bolsters are too damn narrow for me to be comfortable.

Oh and the STi and EVO. I have ttwo complaints about them. The interiors for all you get in a car such as those two seem to be an afterthought. Whooppee, they both have Recaros. the STi's boost gauge while nifty on the column looks like they just slapped it there. You can see the wires and looming snake around column and bulge the panelling above your knee. the "driver controlled differential" is nothing more than a 25 cent spinning wheel with nothing more than and incremental white stripe to show any real degree of control. I think Subaru could have put more thought and better ergonomics into the interior, since its the Big Dog. Other than that, its an awesome corner carver and flat out burner. The EVO is the same way, for what it is selling for, the interior is in actuality nothing more than a bottom barrell Lancer interior with Recaros, boost gauge, and again a an el cheap o intercooler mister switch to override the once every 2 minutes timer. It doesnt even have a mister resevior level indicator. I think the designers who are putting these Turbo hotrods together need to put more thought into ergos and remember these cars are meant to be driven, if the driver feels cheapened, the whole experience is.

Finally, with all due respect, please stop with the "only pop up and badmouth when someone discusses imports". The routine really is getting old. Just because you have an MN12, doesnt mean you have a license to flame others and tout turbo 4 cylinders. We are all here as a community, respect isnt earned here as much as it is to be expected mutually among all members.

yeah thanks for the advice and opinions, good and bad, i like it, and i'm 6'3 and 300 pound + and it was a little cozy on the inside but it is livable, i was planning to get a new car eventually anyways, and for the price there is no vehicle that can come close to it in bang for the buck except the wrx but i want to stay in an american car,

on launches that thing like to spin like a mofo, great for showing off a little, don't even have to lean on it to do a nice little burnout(acted stupid) the salesman was cool he say's it happens alot when you are not used to the car, but i learned to launch it at a little more then 1/4 throttle in first, but once you hit second get all up on it man, look out! lol, that thing is a blast!

yeah IF i get it i'll still keep the bird as a work vehicle and still mod it a little, but that "neon" as ya'll like to call it will be my weekend warrior, :D and i know it hurts a little to be able to get a itty bitty four cylinder car, stock, brand new, with a warranty and still be able to spank a few of the more modded v8's.

and no, i'm not gonna be ricing it out by putting some altezzas and those wierd looking body kits, and other crap on it, man, i just want a reasonably quick car that looks good as is with a warranty to boot that i can take outta town with out having to worry about it overheating and having parts falling off, lol........later'z......:D

and fo the record.. the SRT-4 isn't an import...

though it has an import engine, that count? :D

another waste of money.. the mazdaspeed protege.. that can also use a little work on the interior.. then again, you are getting a turbo'd 4 for under $20G

yeah. Wheel hop on an FWD car SUCKS. Just the littlest bit of rain on the ground has my car bouncing all over the road, throwing stuff off the dash.

That's true, but the WRX and EVO both earned respect as very capable and accomplished Rally Cars...

well thanks for the suggestion about a stang, but not to be rude, every body and thier dog has a mustang, in one form or another, and no offense but with the upgrades that mopar offers it is possible to get way faster than a stang, and it won't void the warranty either, and i still want to have good gas mileage along with really good performance, plus i like the practicality of a four door because i have to start thinking ahead about maybe having a family sooner or later, i'm about sick and tired of having to deal with a two door on a daily basis, lol....later'z....:D

FWD is no fun. Peppy little car. I'd get one as a daily beater, but never as a project unless they made an affordable RWD conversion kit (a la Focus).
