Unfortunately, it won't fit the factory T-Bird rear cover (at least on a '93 V8 8.8). There are some supports that interfere with the brace, right where the rear mount extrudes from the cover. I tried grinding it, but too much material needs to be removed to make it work.

The good news is, that it fits the Mark Viii cover perfectly with no mods (see pic below, '97 Mark Viii). It will also fit the 99+ Cobra covers. The '03 Cobra cover seems to be a good mod along with this brace to make it bulletproof.

This brace totally prevents this from happening:

There's a '96 that I can look at real quick and report back...the brace WILL fit the 99+ Cobra covers.

Dammit...that '96 has the FRPP in it, but I did verify that it will fit that cover. If someone has a good pic of a factory cover I can take a look and see if it'll work.

I wrote the designers of the brace to see if they would be interested in making a small design change to make it work on the T-Bird covers...we'll see how that goes.

Was that car with the broken cover using the OEM rubber mounts? It seems most of the failures I've seen have them. I would expect stiffer mounts front and rear would take a lot of the stress off the covers - the problem isnt that the covers suck (though they are pretty weak), but that they're being twisted.

I like that brace. I as well would like to know if it fits the cover on a 96. I also would like to know who makes it.

I really would have hate to have been driving that car when that broke!!!!!

It was made primarialy for the 03 Cobra guys, who seem to toast diff covers and half shafts like there's no tomorrow. Please post up the pic of the '96 rear cover and I'll take a look at it and let you know. Basically, if it has a large casting support/rib in the lower right corner, the brace won't fit. Again, this is not an issue for guys with the FRPP unit or a Mark Viii rear cover, It'll fit. Actually, I was quite suprised to find out the T-Birds had a different cover...par for the course in the T-Bird vs Mustang parts interchangabilty I guess!

You can find the brace here. It's $210.00 shipped. So far, no one has broken a rear cover, even when side-stepping the clutch at 7000. Should be plenty strong enough for us!

Actually I posted about this quite a while back and the only person that seemed to care was 392Bird.

Since that appears to butt right against the factory mount integrated into the cover, it is not going to bolt to the chassis mount, you'll have to make a new mount of some type on the chassis too. Not an issue on the Cobras, they don't mount to both sides, exactly why they are far more likely to break covers anyway. I see no need for this on these cars, I know of no one breaking one yet.

Actually you may be on to something. Based on the pics above, the new one doesn't seem to align the same as the one that's supposed to be for our cars. I haven't looked very close before but that seems a bit odd.
