I read in some book about 4.6/5.4l engines that regrinding SOHC camshafts can easily lead to cracks. Something about the hardening process not going deep enough into the lobes so grinding them takes to much of the hardened material away. I guess regrinding DOHC cams is ok tho, figures. That's what lead to the billet camshafts.

Regrinding cams is bad. There are enough aftermarket cams available now-no need to chance the issues and failures associated with regrinds.
