any ideas why that would happen so soon, bad luck maybe???

this dosent help my situation, the tranny is also on its last legs.

Looks like it's time for a PI intake swap. And if you're paying $600 for a '96 intake, you need to change where you shop quickly.

direct from ford, checked many other shops in the area. All were priced at $589. PI parts were even more expensive.

I need it back on the road asap, no time to look for deals :(

also, since no one has mentioned it. its very common for the intake manifold to crack on the 96-97's due to poor design. there was actually a 7 year extended warranty from ford on it. mine cracked at 35k and was replaced under the warranty for free. warranty id over now. just letting you know that you dont have bad luck. btw, do the pi intake whileu got the chance.

hey greenbird your pms are full but anyways i am very interested in your pi intake, i am gathering things for my pi swap, let me know, how old and how many miles on it also. also does it have the extra hole that i would need in it for some sensor.

thanks for all the help guys, but its all done and over with, and the car runs now. Unfortunatly i payed way too much and know for next time anything goes wrong.

I also had the tranny and t/c flushed with mercon V, car shifts much better, but the car jerks around alot now when i hit the throttle and the cel came on....uhhh

I think most of the cracking part comes from the alternator - i think people underestimate just how much the alt pulls on the intake when the A/c kicks on. I was going to make a bracket up here for my car since my current one didnt fit (my PI intake is an all-plastic). After noticing the Alt. deflection I think I'll leave it held by the bottom 2 bolts.

Alpine,
sorry to hear you got overcharged... look into your plugs/wires for the funny stuttering, it can be mistaken for TC shudder. I've made that mistake myself.

I have a pic of the old manifold, its a barely noticeable hairline crack that looks harmless, but maybe thats why my low coolant light was constantly coming on for the past 6 months. A slow leak finally blew..

Im gonna look into the current problem tomorow, hopefully its nothing major...all this stuff is happening at once and blowing my head (not to mention the bank as well). But if the t/c needs to go.....hello maruader t/c :D

I can attest to this. Well kinda, I put in a '02 explorer engine back in april with 10K on it. I'm running the '94 alt with the back ground down to make sure there is NO interference with the plastic crossover and there is NO alternator bracket on my car. I drive the dog crap out of the car (I'd guess about 30k myself) and haven't cracked the crossover yet. I also have stat with holes drilled and U/D pullies.

When the intake on my '97 went I called a couple of local dealerships and they flat said it isn't covered. I found a Ford service alert somewhere on the Internet that if the car was built after May 29, 1997 it isn't covered - unless it was a police car or taxi (gotta take care of the big buyers). I even wrote to Ford Motor Company - no luck. Might as well have been talking to the wall (or "the hand" lol).

I had a new plastic intake put on the car but now I have a PI intake on standby if that problem comes up again.
