Best way is to take a piece of very thin wire, or fishing line, and saw it off, between the glue tape and the emblem.

Use it kinda like dental floss.....lol

robbie:

I'm collecting new goodies for my upcoming full-paint job in the spring, and have in my hot little hand a new "Thunderbird LX" emblem for a 96, still in the plastic bag. If you pull your whole emblem off, you will find 3 pins about 1/8" in diameter:

- one at the top of the T where the vertical and horizontal bars meet;
- one at the junction of the R and the B;
- one at the bottom of the L, in the thickest part.

Near as I can tell, the pins (and matching holes in the trunk lid) are simply an alignment aid for assembly, as the emblem itself is retained by industrial-strength double-sided tape.

Hope this helps,

Someone should probably mention to use either Goo Gone, Goof off, or clear nail polish remover (the kind with acetone) to get rid of the tape residue.

there are DEFINETLY 3 holes behind the Thunderbird LX script, and they will need to be filled unless you want your trunk to leak

mine was just a sticker, I removed the logo and there were no holes.

I suppose mine had a replaced lid at one time then.

your 93 also doesn't have the logo on the decklid. it's on the taillight, so of course there would be no holes behind it.

Here is what I know FOR SURE.

My 96 T-Bird was heavily vandalized in the rear, apparently the tool of choice was a ball-peen hammer. I’m collecting parts to reassemble it after a full repair and repaint in the spring.

My 96 trunk lid was so badly damaged that I purchased a replacement lid off a 93 T-Bird from the local wrecking yard. This 93 lid has been completely disassembled, all that is left on it is the old paint.

The 96 lid has the script “Thunderbird LX” emblem on the left side, above the LED lightbar reflector. It is held in place with double-stick tape and has 3 alignment pins that fit into 3 matching alignment holes on the lid.

The 93 lid did not have a Thunderbird emblem on the left side of the trunk lid. I believe that the 93 used a block-letter “THUNDERBIRD” emblem attached along the lower edge of the left LED lightbar reflector. I would say that a stick-on on the LED lightbar would not use alignment pins and holes. It appears that the LX cars got a second, small block-letter "LX" emblem, also a stick-on, that went to the right of the main THUNDERBIRD emblem.

I have purchased a new 96 script “Thunderbird LX” emblem for my car, to be installed after the repainting is completed. It has the 3 alignment pins on it on the back side, as I wrote in the forum earlier. I will have to drill the 3 small alignment holes, for the 96 emblem, in the 93 lid prior to painting.

You can check for the alignment pin holes on your car very easily. Open the trunk lid and feel along the inside of the lid, through the openings behind the emblem. Your 97 will almost certainly have the 3 alignment pins and holes.

I'm not sure when the script "Thunderbird LX" emblem was moved to the trunk lid. It looks like it was after 93, I'm thinking it was on the 95-97 cars. Anyone want to chime in with info on the 94 cars?

Shaving it on a 94 was easy...

I used the high "e" sting from my guitar, and some goo-gone:D
