Since they are hydraulically tensioned they will easily last 300K miles. What actually wears is the tensioners where the chains ride.

In general the 4.6L engines are known for lasting forever as long as you keep the fluids and filters changed.

Weird, my dad's 1996 Mustang Cobra broke a timing chain one morning a few years ago. The engine had about 100K miles on it. It was always maintained. Maybe it was a factory defect or something.

If you have the engine open at this point, I'd go ahead and replace the entire system. Otherwise, leave it alone.

my dads old lincoln had 330,000 miles on it and never needed it replaced. i had it replaced on my old motor at around 130,000 only cause they had the motor torn down that far. go figure i would have to swap the motor less than 30 miles later.

Good timing! I was just going over what parts I should be ordering for general maintance and Timing Chain was one of them
