Has anyone successfully installed a 295/45R18 tire on the back of their MN12? I'm looking at the new Nitto NT555 G2 tire in that size, to go along with 18" x 10" wheels. I know a 285/40R17 works on my car, and assume a 285/40R18 will also fit, but the 295/45 is much taller than either of those choices.

That is a HUGE tire, 1.9" taller overall than stock height. It's going to throw your speedometer way off.

To measure fitment, the offset of your wheels is an important factor. I have 18x9" wheels on all four corners, running 255/40/18 and have no clearance issues (unless I turn all the way to lock then I may rub my inner fenderwall) but it is VERY close to the spindle with my 35mm offset wheels.

Assuming you're using wheels from Custom WHeel Shop with a 36mm offset, your tires will be 3/4" closer to the suspension, your wheels will be 1.5" closer, and you'll take up an additional 1.2" toward the top of the wheelwell. Your tire will also stick out .9" father.

Grab a tape measure and check before buying.

The speedo error can be handled with a drive gear change, of course. I'm thinking outside the box a bit here, trying to come up with a combination that will fill the wheel wells while maintaining ground clearance after I drop the car further. My high flow cats scrape sometimes when driving on undulating pavement, and I don't want to make that situation worse. But the stance is bad, especially in the front, so i feel like further lowering is necessary.

Here's my car on 255/40R18 all around with 1.5" Eibach lowering springs. I think they fill the wheel wells quite well, and they are a 26" tall tire like the 17's you were running.



In my opinion, instead of going with huge tires to get more ground clearance while achieving the stance you want, just spend a few bucks to get your exhaust pipes tucked upward a little more. That way you don't have to worry about fender clearance issues and ruining a nice set of tires.

The stance of your car looks pretty good. Like mine, the front looks a little higher than the rear, but overall an improvement from what I've got. I'll probably end up with ~27" tall tires, since the 28" tall ones are either light truck tires or only used on Pro Street cars.

The 285/40/18's you mentioned previously are a 27," but it's such an oddball size that the selection is very limited.

Other than the rear of the GT500's did any other car use this size?

285/35/18 will be 25.9" tall and there's lots of selection.

My driveway isn't level, when I'm on flat ground it's even.

The 285/40-18 size is available from Nitto, Continental, Bridgestone, Goodyear, Pirelli and Michelin. Granted, other than Nitto these are pretty expensive tires, but at least there are choices.

BTW, 27" isn't that much taller than the OE tires. The base LX got 215/70-15's which were 26.85" diameter, while the Sport option cars got 225/60-16's which were 26.63" diameter.

Woodman: did you have to use a spacer with the 255/40-18's in front? I've had to run a 4mm spacer with 255/45-17s on a 9" wide wheel. That is something I'd like to get away from with the next set of wheels and tires.

Mike, no spacers. I did a lot of research before i bought the wheels, and got the 35mm offset because I knew it would clear. Most of the 18x9's for our cars (from Custom Wheel Shop) are 36mm offset. I took measurements, plugged them into this site Rim & Tire Size Calculator. Custom Offsets - Wheel-Size.com and it showed I should clear. I mounted them up and sure enough, no issues. A 38mm offset would be a little too close I think.

I did buy a set of hubcentric rings for the wheels too.
