and got my transmission flushed. I loved how when I walked in he already tried to sell me more services.. Such as an oil change, fuel filter, etc. I took the fuel filter, seeing as I had no clue what the hell / where the hell it was on the car.

So Saturday I got 2 things worked on:

Transmission flushing
Fuel Filter

Alright, so I am waiting in there reading through Ford mags and so on.. The man who rang me up comes in and tells me I need:

New tires and an
Oil Change

Well.. Next he comes out and tries to sell me a T-Bird watch and Keychain. I guess since I am 19 he thinks I am dumb and doesn't know crap.

I later asked him about the transmission before they began to refill it. I told him that I wanted Mercon V put in it. He said: "Does it require that?" Funny thing is, he claimed he owned 3 T-Birds (85, 93, 97) before he ended up with his V6 Stang (01 I think). This is where I got technical thanks to you guys! :D "Yes, according to the club I am in, my fellow clubbers in TCCoA recommend Mercon V and I believe that the 4r70W transmissions already come with it stock."

Needless to say, that is what went in it, and that is when he quit trying to sell me stuff.

About the Transmission cooler:

Some of you guys helped me out (Especially FordMan77) about Tranny coolers and what not. I ordered it off of TT Performance like Recommended; however, when I got home and opened the box (from Thunder Racing.. huh?). The transmission cooler was not there! Instead there was a whole bunch of little rods with Thunder Racing written on them (my grandfather and I came to the conclusion they were pushrods). I know for a fact that was not a transmission cooler from looking at FordMan77's pictures, B&M's, etc.

Needless to say I have emailed them, and I will call them tomorrow (Monday) asking about what do I do with the part I got, and where is the part I ordered. If you all have any advice how I should deal with this let me know. Needless to say, I was a VERY pissed off person on my birthday, because I wanted to work on my car.. With my new tools I got... Instead, I did nothing.

I just mainly wanted to get that update out, and hopefully I will get my part before the end of this week.

I also wanted to add, after driving it 2 or 3 times I began to notice MUCH better and stronger shifting on the car's part. I bet I could drop my 1/8 mile time by .1 with the improvement I got.

I cringe to think what the dealer charged to put a fuel filter in, and change the transmission fluid.

The fuel filter on a 97 bird is a two minute job, and the transmission fluid flush is a 25 minute job absolutely tops.

$189.00 I believe.

I had no tools to boost the car up to change the fluids or do anything of the sort. I also didn't even know a fuel filter existed; however, I am hoping this is the LAST time I need to take my car to a shop, unless I am getting tires put on the alloys.

Another note.. I didn't have any clue how to change the transmission fluid, which by the next 50,000 miles, I will know.

Surely there is a tccoa member near you that has the room and tools to do such a job.

Or a local shop that won't charge so much. I'm sorry to say it but I feel that 189 is a huge ripoff. Gigantic.

The fluid is about 40 bucks, and the transmission filter which I doubt they even changed, goes for about 10 bucks. The fuel filter is 10 bucks tops.

So, 60 dollars at most for parts.

So, they charged you 129 dollars to change transmission fluid and change a fuel filter?

Like I said before this is no more than an hour to do both jobs, especially at a shop.

Take your car somewhere else unless you dont mind spending the money.

See, the main problem is, my grandfather probably wouldn't of let me do it myself anyways... Seeing that I had no jack/jackstands until later Saturday. So I was gonna get screwed either way...

I felt shafted by the dealership either way, but I knew it needed to be done.

Got any advice on the tranny cooler problem?

yeah just give them a call, any good reputable business will take care of you no problem. mistakes happen sometimes, it just sucks that they happen when your planning on doing a mod!

Just use the "contact" link on the TT Performace page, and you will get a response. I had to contact them once when I ordered mine (non-order related prob.) and I received a response quickly. And yes, the cooler itself comes from Thunder Racing(don't know why, didn't really matter), I forgot to mention that in my previous post. I'm sure that they will have no problem helping you get the right stuff. I haven't delt w/ them a lot yet, but I have had good experiences w/ them. Hope you get it taken care of. Hate to get a bad recommendation for ya.

---------> Update <----------

Alright, I just got off the phone with TT Performance and the Transmission cooler was sent to me free of charge at 5:30 this morning, I should have it by tomorrow or the day after!

I'm all excited now! I'll make sure to take pics and show.

Glad to hear it worked out for you. Hate to recommend something and have it turn into a hassle for someone. Did you get to keep the pushrods?? What were they for?

I got another update.

The cooler is at my house.. So Friday I will examine my car (and do an oil change), and Saturday I will do the modification, along with taking the air silencer out.

It was an honest mistake and if I ever need to do business with them again I will. It still was a good recommendation (they boosted the price of the unit by 10 dollars after I ordered it!).

The pushrods I think were for an LS1 engine, because there were 2 sets and TT Perf. had advertised a special on pushrods (or it was a big seller, can't remember which). I am going to give them back of course, I have no use for them, I just want my cooler!
