Hey guys. I had a question about my '91 Tracer LTS 5-speed. It's basicaly a 4-door Escort GT. It jammed in second gear one day and wouldn't come out. Even after I limped home and tried to in the driveway. I thought I was gonna break the shifter. After a day or so I went out and tried again and it finally popped out. So I took it for a drive. It's difficult shifting and I have to be careful and slow. Sometimes it doesn't want to come out of gear too. It seems to get worse the longer I drive. I've pulled and checked the speed senser and gear, and the fluid level seems fine. I bled the hydrolic system and checked the master, slave, and clutch cylinders for leakage, and leak down. All seems fine? I don't have much experiance with these drive trains. Is there some type of inherant problem (with these (Mazda/Ford) drive trains? Does it sound like a transaxle problem? Clutch, shifter problem? The release bearing has been a little noisey for a while but not cranky. My first impulse is to maybe check and replace the shifter bushings, or the whole shifter (they're fairly cheap). But If I have to go to the expense of replacing the clutch, or transaxle:(. I like this car and have a lot invested in it. Except for this, the car is nearly perfect (it was a one owner, military guys car). Any insight or suggestions would be great!! Thanks guys....
