I am fairly new to the forum and really love the information and knowledge shared here. I have a 95 T-Bird LX and I am looking at replacing my trans with an 03 Grand Marquis trans. I have read some of the posts and saw that one member wanted to replace his 96 T-Bird's trans and was advised that he could drop in one from an 02 Grand Marquis, but had to repin the harness and swap the manual lever on the side.

I am wondering:
1) Do I need to repin the harness and swap the lever on the side if I wanted to use the 03 Grand Marquis trans for my 95 Bird?
2) Is this the same advice if I wanted to use a trans from a 04 Crown Vic?
3) Is there anything else recommended with swapping in any of these trans?

You have to repin the harness, and swap the lever.

There are other changes, specific to the 94-95 cars; you should search to find them.

With an 03, you need to look in the hole for the VSS and see if there are teeth on the output shaft; some have them, some do not.

An 02 will have the teeth, and there are no upgrades between those years.

An 04 will not have those teeth, so you can't use them.

At this point, 18 years later, I'd have an 02 rebuilt before I put it in.
