I went to Cottman (transmission specialist, www.cottman.com) and I told him exactly what I wanted done to my t-birds transmission. To make a long story short, he said my best bet is to go with a Hayden cooler instead of a B & M, and also he said kevlar OD bands will work best in my car. Is this true, or am I getting BS'd?

Thank you in advance.

Can't help you with the OD bands but as long as you use a plate style cooler, you'll be fine. Hayden and B&M both make them.

Hayden and B&M both make a stacked plate cooler. They probably sell Hayden, thats why they recommend them. They are probably equal in quality.

As for the kevlar od band, they are trying to get you into the shop for a rebuild.

If you want a real transmission, have dennis send you one.

For the mean time, just keep clean fluid in yours (change it every year), and avoid wide open throttle 3-overdrive shifts.

According to the one with greater transmission knowledge, the Kevlar OD bands require alot more pressure to stop the drum, hence if you do not have enough pressure you are actually causing more slip and more heat, while the band can take this the rest of the transmission isn't going to like it as much.

I forgot to mention that I needed a rebuild. It wont go into third gear. The direct clutch is messed up :(

I will get the money soon enough (about 1600 i think). I will have the guy put in the trans cooler and the trans go shift kit. Also I will get the extented warranty (just in case) At leaat my car will shift better, but no racing until I break it in :)

On another note, a guy wants to bet me $50 that I cant beat his Civic. Yea I know they are light and quick and he has a turbo. However, I have better shifting now and I have more power. We will see.

Ill see if I can record it and then post it online for all to see :ztoohot:

Make sure he gets you the mechanical diode upgrade (reverse drum and mech diode one-way). Those 7 roller things are super flimsy and will fail. Your AOD should already have the 2" OD band, and you really dont need the kevlar.

As slow as they are (18 or so second cars) with a turbo I would hope that shaved a few seconds off that and at least put him in the 15's for the money he spent. With that being said, your car in stock form, even though it may shift well will probably only manage a low to mid 17.

I would figure that I would have less than a 17 sec car. I mean I know this car weighs nearly 4000 lbs and is mostly stock, but I have the 5.0. I guess that dont mean nothing huh.

I know my 99 malibu was pretty fast and it had a 170/190. A tbird beat me on the highway racing home one day. Ironic huh. Now I have a tbird.

Maybe my friend is right, HP isnt everything.
