my car went into safe mode the cel went on. sctbird1994 toldmeto check the harness becasue of the specific codes, i did and the passenger side plug has tranny fluid i guess blocking the connection. well i wiped it off and my cars fine...

just wonder why that happened, and should i worry about it happeneing again?

Maybe it was a little overfilled and came out of the vent? Can't quite remember if the harness is in the path of the vent, but it could be.

i would guess tailshaft, it leakd when it was put in, and was sealed up, maybe not good enough.

i just had this tranny put in a few months back. thanks for the suggestions.

well its still happening...i wiped the plug, and connector, and the car ran fine two days go, but yesterday no matter how much i wiped it would drive.

So the problem is you have a leak someplace, not the codes anymore, right? Probably where the tailshaft mounts to the transmission if it leaked before. Mine leaked from the dipstick tube not being fully pressed in, but that is the other side of the tranny and more likely to be spotted on that side.

Are we talking about the white plug that sticks out of the transmission case on the passenger side, shown circled in red in the following picture?



If that connector is filling up with trans fluid, it needs to be replaced. That feeds the internal trans harness. The bad news is that you'll have to drop the pan, remove the harness, and pull that connector out of the trans case to replace it.

Yes the VB needs to be dropped to replace the internal wiring harness. The leak is usually from the internal grommet on the harness, its a common leak and shouldnt affect the electronics.

The problem actually turned out to be the harness connector on the Transmission X-member, where the tranny harness connects the portion of the harness that goes into the vehicle interior under the dash. The primary red wire had a loose connection and the crimp connector was tightened on the female side.

The Primary power wire that feeds 3 power sources inside the transmission is 1 wire at that point, then it splices into 3 wires on the transmission wiring harness .. thats why the car pulled 3 transmission failure codes ( TCC, PWM, and something else I cant remember at the moment. )

Exactly what codes have you been getting? I've been having trouble with my tranny to. So far we've replaced the Shift Solenoid and one of the pigtails but I still have the same problem and the same code. (Shift solenoid)

If the problem could be caused by something as simple as a leak I'll be both happy (easy to fix) and ticked (already spent money on the shift solenoid).

The 3 codes that came up were for the TCC, EPC, and Shift Solenoid - which are all powered by the Red wire on the transmission wiring harness. P0743 was for the TCC. Dont remember the other 2 codes.

The fluid shouldnt interfere with the electrical wiring and connections - if that were the case, your electronics inside the pan wouldnt work either.

What exactly are your symptoms and code ? The Shift solenoids negative triggers go to the EEC ... if the electronics arent faulty and the valve body / transmission isnt clogged with debris, they should be okay as long as the EEC and wiring are in good condition.

Thanks a bunch. The car currently shifts great when its warmed up. When its cold it wont go into first unless done manually, and it won't drop back into first after coming to a stop unless its done manually. The guy at the shop is going to run two diagnostics on Wed. One first thing in the AM when its cold, and another after its warmed up and shifting right in order to find out what the differences are.

The pigtail was replaced because it showed definite signs of wear.

Not sure .. thats an interesting one. Could be the Forward clutch rings on the Stator support .. they dont seal as well until warmed up. In manual 1st gear the Forward clutch and reverse band apply .. whereas in 1st gear normally, the Forward clutch applies only.
I doubt your problem is electronic especially if youve already replaced the Shift solenoids and it works in Manual 1st, might be some internal wear.
