Hello guys!!

I bought my first T-Bird (94' 3.8 LX) about two weeks ago. I haven't had a time to drive this baby yet (due to insurance) but I do start the car up every two days or so and just drive it around the block to make sure I don't collect any water.

Anyway, I been having this problem (I think) with the trans. When I start the car and put the trans in the gear, I can feel the gear engage. But when I press the gas pedal (both on foward and reverse), I have this momentary lag, then car start to go. This momentary lag is anywhere between half to a full second. Now, I just bought this car, so I do not know what the condition of the trans, or what modification was done to this trans.

Can you guys tell me if this is normal for all 3.8, or I need to replace something, or Am I due for an overhaul?

Thanks for all your help.

How many miles on the car?
It doesn't sound like there's a real problem, but especially if I didnt know the history and it's a 94, I'd drain the pan and TC, and do the J-mod. The updated accumulator pistons should be added to any car that doesnt have them. Use Mercon V, and only the real thing, no additives or magic potions in a bottle. Do a little searching, this comes up all the time. :)

The car have about 105,000 on it. As of now, I have three other car (2GM, 1Ford) I'm working on, so I really don't have enough time to check on the T-Bird yet, but All other area looks ok.

Checked the trans fluid and color is still ok. No burnt smell but I know this is easy to change. Will probably go under the car soon to check the other stuff like the accumulator Mod and such.

It just that My other 3cars (85' Gutless, 79' T/A, 86' Mustang) don't have this problem so I thought soomething was wrong with this trans.

Anyway, thanks for the tip and I will definately check the trans soon.
