Hey, Latly I've noticed my car is sliping out of over drive. I dont know why, it only dose it at high speeds (60+) it just like jumps from 2200 RPM to 2700 then back down, then back up. This continues untill i ether turn off over drive, or slow down. any ideas? I have no clue how I could have f....ed up Overdrive... 1st or 2nd i could see but there fine.

Probably a fried OD band. It would help to update to the larger OD servo, but it sounds like the damage is already done. Oh well good excuse to put in a new style reverse drum. :)

Mine flares when shifting out of OD only. upshifts are nice clean and crisp. Just when i give alil gas or hit OD button it flares then goes into 3rd.

Both sound like overdrive bands slipping.

Well once its engaged it doesnt slip or doesnt slip going into OD. Its just disengagement that it flares before dropping into 3rd. Sometimes it will do it, sometimes it wont. Going into OD is good and i travelled almost 300 miles over the last 2 days doing 80mph on the highway. Wouldnt it slip going into OD as well? Not just coming out. Its like its taking too long to downshift into 3rd.

Edit.... well today it slipped some going into OD... im will just lockout OD til income tax and ill buy a 99 gt w/ tq converter hopefully.

In overdrive, the OD band applies and the direct clutch disengages. When coming out of OD into third, the band releases and the direct clutch applies simultaneously. If the direct clutch is sluggish to apply, you get the flare after the OD band releases, then the bang when the direct clutch applies. At least that's my understanding...back that up with someone else before you accept it as fact. I also hear about it happening to other people...mine does it sometimes. Hope this helps.

Yea i was able to tell before when the tc was locking and unlocking ... now the engine revs probably 800 rpm then hits hard into 3rd .... just started doing it within the last month.

Okay, then the TC is not what you are describing, but for our newbie I still want to look at this. A locking/unlocking TC will make the tach jump up and down a bit, and though its normal, to those who arent used to it it appears odd. I don't want him thinking somethings wrong if its possible there isnt.
