FWIW, I put a Cobra radiator in my Thunderbird (which doesn't have a tranny cooler) and I used that exact cooler on the front for the trans cooler.

Good news: it works
Bad news: the trans temp runs like 200* on hot days which I know is too high - I'll get the big 45K btu cooler beast that Robert sells when I get the funds!

Too small in my opinion. Then again I am running the tru-cool 45,000 btu transmission cooler. However the kit robertp is selling would probably be sufficient if your bird is stock.

The kit that Robert P. sells is 45k IIRC. So it would be sufficient waaaay past stock too.

The 45k btu cooler is 8 1/2 x 22 3/4 x 1 1/4 inch.... the kit Robertp has for sale is 11 x 11 3/4 x 3/4 inch, my guess is it's rated closer to 20k btu

Wouldnt you say a fan is needed on the 45k cooler if youre in NV or AZ, NM, or TX.

I know that cooler just radiates the heat on the summer where I think it might be too hot for the trans.

On the other hand running hot is a tbird tradition LOL.

I don't have a temp gauge for the trans yet, so it's hard to tell, but I am working on a fan system for mine.

Here is a pic of it mounted on TM's car that is pushing 390RWHP IIRC with a SVO blower.

That's the cooler he recommended for my setup. It is supposedly rated for a motor home towing 10,000 lbs. I'd say that's enough for me. lol

- I went with a brand new Ford P/N F4TH 7A095 for $25 off EBAY - Optional Trans Cooler on the old Windstars but the Ford P/N has a nice bracket well suited to under Bumper installs on Mk's & Tbirds although it was probably in front of Rad stock (which I would NEVER do) - It's just a $60 B&M 70273 with a bracket - Compression fittings on existing lines cut at Passenger side & Hose Barb adapters to a short run of $3 a foot dude Hi Press line - & Yes this is one of the things you can shop to death on EBAY once you know what size & thickness your desired location will handle.

- I say delete the Rad Cooler PERIOD - You do NOT want to end up like the dudes who have seen our Plastic ended Aluminum Cored Rads fail - It AINT pretty - I've seen some favorable changes in how my VCRM kicks in the Fan since I deleted the Tranny heat load fm Rad - Up North you'll need some kinda Fluid Temp Sensing Valve.

Failure to read post 2.

I think Robert is running a special on coolers I believe.

We are referring to the kit he has on sale. Not the 45k kit. I am aware that he sells both. Also for what it's worth, he isn't the only source for a tru-cool 4739-1 45k btu cooler. We were recommending an affordable slightly larger cooler to the OP rather then the smaller tube and fin unit he found, however the 45k unit is probably the best solution for a modified car, if the OP's car is slightly modified or not modified at all, running the cooler posted in the link that robert has on sale would be more then sufficient.

You completely misunderstood the difference between the cooler he has on sale here

I think Robert is running a special on coolers I believe.

and the cooler he has for sale on his website.

Also yes I am very familiar with the 45k cooler on his website, that ThunderChecken and TrunkMonkey, are using, I'm running the same unit on my car.

You can see the cooler in the picture behind my crash bumper.

With no stall converter I'm sure that unit will be sufficient on your set up, however if you plan on upgrading the TC I'd go with the larger one, that way you don't have to spend money twice.
