JUST TO LET EVERYONE KNOW....IF THIS HAPPENED IT WOULD BE OVER THE NEXT YEAR....SO NO RUSH, NO INSULTS, AND ALOT OF HELP PLEASE

does anyone have anything to say about turbocharging a 4.6? my brothers buddy owns a turbo shop, and he had a 500hp t3/t4 setup lined up for my 96 mustang gt for 1200 with intercooler, im sure he would do almost such a deal for the t-bird.....my question is how hard would this be compared to supercharging?? It should be cheaper(for the system) as long as there wont need to be a billion custom machined parts, i know I will need custom header/ random bracketry/induction parts, and alot of plumbing, he also sells the rear mount(tailpipe) setups and would that be something to look into??? He said a tailpipe system for my z71 would be around 1000 so it shouldnt be much more for the thunderbird would that be possible to do since there is some room under there??
there is a guy with a dyno here that could tune it for me, and he also builds $100,000 race engines, and has built single and twin tubo cars over 1000hp so he knows what hes doing. Dont want to spend more than 2500 in the end, so im not sure if i even could do it, thats where the input comes in.:D

i would be weary with a complete turbo setup for only $1200 fabbed and installed.

i paid

$1800 for the turbo wg and bov
$350 for intercooler and coldside piping
$225 hotside exhaust piping
$380 injectors
$250 tuner
$200 wideband o2
$320 maf and mafia

and none of that includes fabbing it installing it or paying someone to tune it.

ARe you planning to keep the ac? Building a hotside for a MN12 4.6 is a little more difficult than a GT

sorry about the confusion, its just the intercooler, turbo, wg, bov, piping(both hot and cold). I am going to have to fab it up, mount it all, myself and get supporting mods and have the tune done elsewhere...the quality of the turbo is no issue, he has many contacts with renowned race companys and the turbos are on a number of record holding cars such as, worlds fastest FWD 4cyl. , worlds fastest FWD 4 cyl. street legal, and many sub 8 sec. cars....also his biggest client is BORG WARNER, and he extensively modifies their turbos......his car is a 7.60 supra fully gutted and fully built 800 plus hp on mild tune and pump gas.... NOT STREET LEGAL.....although I had the chance to ride in it and i will say that if you dont know how to f-ing drive really really good i wouldnt touch that car, it was only at 25ish psi(yeah only) when i was in it and he pulls 30+ at the track(its also like an 80+mm turbo)

the routing of the hotside will be a little tough but there is room especially if your ditching the ac it will give you lots of room.

A flipped F150 manifold should clear the frame rails on the passenger side and that will dump the exhaust out right above where your ac compressor is right now. Then you may be able to leave the driver side manifold in its place and run a pipe under the bell housing and then ran up under the passenger side manifold. Using oem manifolds works great on turbo setups as the cast iron manifolds have held up great in turbo applications and keeps the cost and fabrication down to the minimum. No need for fancy headers. This is how I would route it on my white car but Im keeping the AC so i had to go under the k member which means I will loose a few inches of ground clearance. Which is ok to me since Im not planning to lower the car. Im still working on other routes that may be able to be used that will retain full accessories. Also borg and warner turbos are top notch but if you want to save some dough look into master power turbos. A bran new MP-70 will go for about 600$

I will know if I am going to keep this car very soon, if I do I will start getting the stuff together soon(all the little odds and end that arent the turbo or directly related items) and you can feel free to help me with all of what I will need to know....
