I've been needing to change my hinges on my driver's side but I was wondering if there was a nut that needed to be remove on the inside of the dash for the upper hinge. I know there is one for the lower but I haven't pulled things apart enough to see if there is on the upper.

There is one an inside one you have to get to on the upper.. I think the normal procedure is to at least pull away the dash to remove. I got by without doing that on mine, but it was a @#%[email protected]#$^! to do.. and the red marks on my arms directly after very well proved it.

I just replaced the pins in mine. It isn't that hard if you have a friend to help. I would have liked to replace the whole hinges but I didn't want to tear into the dash. With the pin replacement there is no need to unbolt that side of the hinge.

Just bust out the grinder to remove the pin. If the hinge is bad, it is probably on the door side of the hinge, remove it and replace it with a good one. Problem solved.

Mine was the upper as well. That's 2 out of 2.
Of course, I went ahead and did both of them while I was at it.

I replaced my lower pin about a month ago. Dremeled the top of the pin off and hammered it out. Took about 3 hours to do. (I have a broken wrist and a friends grandfather helping me.)

^few posts up, or if the lower hinge gets bad enough it wrecks the upper hinge... my car did that/was that bad.

if you just take your car to a body shop they can usually do the pins for 50-60 each making them like new

^maybe it was that bad when i got it?? being that my car had more miles on it when i got it compaired to what yours has now.. hahaha

not trying to be an ***, but they were both crap when i got the car.

then the passenger side wasnt that bad so just the lower pin was replaced by a body shop

mine is the upper.... it's been "fixed" before.. someone put a bolt in there, and welded it to the hinge.. so guess what? the weld is broked. so it sags.

and 65k is nothing.. i've got 164552 on my old bird. but the odometer is frozen.. so, its prolly somewhere around 180k right about now. still runs.. HG only replaced once, and recently. rebuilt 4r70w trans.
