I am going over my PI heads, and have some questions for you guys.

I need to remove the valve seals, springs, and valves. I know I need a tool to compress the valve, but I'm not sure which valve spring compessor I need. Also, any tips on the removal? I have never done anythign like this.

Does a standard one like this work on your cars?

Second question is concerning the exhaust ports. I can see a kinda thick (about 2-3 mil) ring inside the exhaust ports. Is this normal or is this carbon deposits? I have seen carbon deposits but not like that. It has the feel of soft plastic. Here's a pic.

you don't compress the valve, you compress the spring, which allows you to reomve the retainer, which then allows you to remove the valve.

here is the Ford OTC spring compressor.

According to my manual. You can use one like you linked to, but you would have to remove the cams. So I would find the one GreenBird shows.

I would also like to know about the exhaust port. Seems like a big restriction.

Thanks for the replies, keep em coming.

GreenBird, I meant the spring. Typo

The heads are getting completely disassembled, so the cams are off.
