This is going to sound trivial but here it goes.

There is a vending machine in Newark airport that I frequent a lot and once in a wile it will screw me out of fifty cents or a quarter and I just chalk it up to a loss and move on.
Anyway a few weeks ago I put in a $5.00 bill and it gave me my chips, 10 cents change, then the display went nuts and started saying "coins only".
I called the number on the machine and left my name and number describing the problem and I have never received a response.

I don't care about the $3.90, I would be happy with a "sorry and thank you for pointing out the problem" but the no response after several calls pisses me off.

So if you would like to help out call RGM Services at 1-800-767-2377 and let them know that the lack of a response is worse then a bad response.

I've called and left messages numerous times and hopefully a full voicemail box will give them a hint.

Complain to the port authority (the authority that runs the airport and likely rented the space to these vending machines).
Obviously, they are making money through neglect and banking tht most people are just passing though and won't complain.
If RGM Services is systematically screwing with customers, they will want to know. Of course, if you don't get a response from these folks, you know they are in cahoots so there's nothing you could have done anyway.

PS. jamming up the machine with a shoe? Please don't. That's likely to shut down the whole airport :)

Usually whoever is leasing the machine has a process in place for refunding money, with little claim envelopes to fill out the amount of your loss. Check with security or the information desk.

Right now the break room vending machines at the plant where I work keep ejecting quarters; takes dollar bills only.

Our current vendor keeps sending us junk machines that break down all of the time.

The latest one is a robotic drink machine that is unreliable.

The account rep that keeps us stocked up never brings enough napkins, so folks grab the coffee filters (from a different company) to use as napkins.

Yesterday I told the guy the machine was still not taking quarters. He said he called tech support to come fix it. Nothing yet.

Vending machines are one of my pet peeves right now.

I tend to think some come companies are still understaffed from the recession or still staffed with more affordable, yet incompetent, employees.

Jail if you're caught.

That's vandalism.

Its at the airport with surveillance cameras aiming at it. I figured this would be the best approach.

LOL That's pretty slick Darren.

Clint why are you even using vending machines? I avoid these like the plague. They're as bad as one armed bandits at casinos, may be worse because at least at casinos you get lucky once in a while.

I'm in and out of airports all the time. If I absolutely need to buy food or a drink I'll swing by the news stand and buy something. It may cost more but at least I know I'm getting what I paid for AND the correct change.

Otherwise I'll buy what snacks I want to eat outside of the airport and carry them in. Obviously I can't do this with drinks but there are bars in the airport for that. ;)
