Is the 4.6 a small or big block:confused:

reason im asking is because ive been told 2 different things by 2 reliable sources, so now im confused.

1. Why does it matter?

2. The whole Big Block/Small Block thing is not truly defined anywhere.

Its not a stupid question.

Usually the term big block / small block refers to the distance between cylinder bores, not necessarily displacement.

Typically, anything bigger than 360 Ci is considered a Big block, but there are engines bigger than 6 litres that are small blocks.

Ford engines arent referred to as Small / Big block .. they are categorized by series, FE, 385, Modular, etc ..

they are mainly chevy people, so that explains it
ill tell them to shut up when it comes to ford. I guess they were trying to explain it in "chevy terms" with chevy logic.
