Getting my 89 Cougar XR7 SC back on the road. No brakes and when I hit the brake pedal the VMM smoked. Is there any connection between the VMM and the brakes or was this a coincidence? Does anyone have a pinout for the VMM?

There's a pinout in the EVTM for your year; I'd buy that before I touched the wiring. (Ebay for used; check at HelmInc for new although as I check they don't have any.) A 1990 might also do for this part.

As I type this, I check, and there's a EVTM for $20 on Ebay right now. This may change at any given moment, of course.

Agreed if I had one for that year I’d look through it and scan pics for you, but it’s good to have on hand anyway.

IMO, probably related, it sounds like something shorted internally in the VMM and popped a fuse that controls the TEVES pump. Possibly vice versa, or there was a short in the wiring to it.
