Anybody else have a VSS that leaks?

Bought the car in February, and with only 46K miles, it already had a small tranny leak at the VSS.

Figuring that the first thing I waz gonna do was "get into" the tranny, I planned to fix the leak when I did the rest of the J-mod stuff.

While doing that, I discovered the the factory had cross-threaded the durn retaining bolt. After much playing and praying, I got the original bolt to tighten up properly.

While the VSS was out, I slipped a new, Ford-replacement o-ring over its nose.

And now, a month later, the dang thing is leaking again!

One thing I REALLY enjoyed while doing the tranny was the fact that the car was CLEAN underneath -- I didn't have to deal with thirty-odd years of oil, rust, and crap while I was on my back.

I ain't worried about sterility here, but the tranny fluid belongs INSIDE the tranny, not on the outside where it grabs up all the dirt it can and turns it into muck.

Permatex Goo #2 it is!

-- sigh --

(Sorta hoped that the factory seal designs had improved some during the time that my other cars had spent adding additional layers of "undercoating".)
