I have a 1994 Mercury Cougar and I was going through my car and found this weird key that says "MASTER" on it, it has symetrical tumblers on both sides, at first I thought it was something the previous left accidentally in the car, but I was on ebay and noticed a car with this exact same key with the owner's manual. My car didn't have an owners manual so I couldn't look it up. Does anybody know what its for?

No dude, it doesn't resemble a car key at all, it looks like a cashbox key or something. I'll see if I can get a pic posted up with it.

That is a key for an older Master lock padlocks. I can't think of anything that would cause them to come with the car, you have a sun roof? hahah, I don't know, I have some of those locks though, now that I look at them, they are probably bump proof!

Maybe it's the key that opens the metal box that sometimes hangs on the window at the dealership. I know my bird had that on it when I went to test drive it. It had the keys to the car in it.

That is definitely a Master Lock Key, and maybe the previous owner just left it on. That could be it possibly, but that has nothing to do with the car, unless your hood is chained down and that is for the lock on the chain. I had those kind of locks before.

The key is just an old Master padlock key. however I want to see a pic of the keyhole in Dave's center console. Who put it there and what the heck does it do?

My 94 has it as well. If you lock it it prevents a valet from popping the trunk

The key doesn't fit in the trunk lock button. I assumed they left it in there to begin with, but when I saw the key with that ebay listing it threw me off. So I don't know what it is.

It's a 94+ thing that probably got phased out in 97.
