My dad has a 02 silverado, 2wd 5.3l truck. It has posi, and the 3.73 gears. his is an LT model, so it weighs about 4600 pounds, and my car is prolly bout 3700 or so. He has 285hp, 325 tq, i have 205 hp, and 280tq. Ive driven both vehicles, his truck is definitely faster. hell with 3 ppl in it we were able to keep up with one of those new nissan altima v6s, which run bout low to mid 15s, i think his car was a stick to. anyway, what mods could i do to take him? No U/D pullies i want to put a stereo in my car, so thats out. And can this be done, without say a PI swap. Realize also i live in CA :(

what bout that C&L trueflow intake plenum, i would need to uggrade to 70mm TB. A 02GT maf and dennis reinhardt chip would help i guess, i dont like the idea of headers, as JBA r the only legal ones for this car, and from what i hear r exepsnive, and crack. I could prolly get like a dynomax or flowmaster catback system on it with 2.25 inch piping, maybe a hi flo 3rd cat. K&N panel filter wouldnt hurt either, id only get gears or a TC, if i did a headswap or engine swap. my car only has 83k miles on it, so it still has a ways to go.

PI intake, PI cams, C&L plenum & 75mm TB, or Accufab plenum & 70mm TB, K&N cone filter in the fender, 02 GT T.C., and 3.73s or at least 3.55s, SCT Tune, Jmod, better flowing exhaust (delete 3rd cat)

you said you'd only do gears and a T.C. if you did a head/engine swap.......do you realize those are some very important items in getting the car down the 1/4?....thats why those are the first thing Matt S posted

2500 HD is much heavier than a 2wd 1500. There is about almost a 1000 lb. weight advantage there, so ya..... of course u can smoke a 2500HD those things are heavy. The curb weight on a 1500 Reg cab 2wd is just a tad above 4000. BTW they never put a 5.7L in the GM trucks from the factory, i think ur referring to the 6.0L 300 hp, which was the only motor offered, and the diesel. ALso guitar, deleting the 3rd cat may not be a good idea in california, unless i take it to a gas station an have them smog it heh, anyway, i could just throw on a hi flo 3rd cat thats CARB legal.

they only feel fast because of the low gearing, they have no top end and take forever to shift.

We tested one with a G-meter and it ran a 16.67 1/4 and we're below sea level here in LA.

Chip, Torque Converter, Gears, and if that alone doesn't do it I'd go for an aftermarket upper intake plenum, and/or a PI lower intake manifold. If that's not enough for you there's a number of things you could do from there.

what model, and engine was it? Ive seen near stock(usually just exhaust and intake) 5.3l reg cabs run low 15s and some have run high 14s, ive seen some timeslips on ls1.com forums. Also theres a few guys that have taken 99+ mustangs in the 1/8 mile, but would prolly lose in the 1/4 cause the mustang has more power up top.

Actually, they did offer a 5.7 until they released the new line of engines (5.3, 6.0, 8.1), and the three currently offered (gas) V8 engines are the 5.3, 6.0 and 8.1. The 8.1 with 340HP and the Allison 1000 5 speed auto is FAST.

i shoulda edited that, i meant 99+ GM trucks, tahoes and burbans where changed in 2000, after 99 they switchd to the 4.8,5.3, and 6.0L engines.

they are pretty quick, heck my 89' F-150 2x4 is 4000lbs even on the scale. With a stock wore out 300-6 and a 4 speed it turns high 17's in the 1/4 (150hp/265tq) A New Chevy truck with just about twice the HP and another 70ft-lbs should go pretty damn good. (seen a 00' 5.3L 2x4 short box running low 15's at the track)
