My father sent me 10lbs of buttermilk biscuit mix and 15lbs of strawberry jam for my birthday.

Why? I have no idea... I've got no use for it, but I'm sure somebody does...

I posted an ad on CL to try to find a good home for them.

I've gotten 13 replies in an hour and I'm trying to find the best home... I'm posting the ones worth mentioning.

Dear potential benefactor,
I am a mom of 4 kids. I am a baker by trade. We bake *everyday* as pastry is one of the few things we enjoy that is relatively cheap.
(No new toys here!)
We are a recent (July) layoff from Whole Foods and we are struggling. (Well, feeding a family of 6 is hard anyway you look at it.)
I am still looking for a night job. Dh is looking for a permanent job. The kid's favorite thing is PB & J or biscuits with jelly as breakfast or snack. Would you consider us for your CL gift?

Sorry to hear your Dad gave you such a gift. I can certainly relate. My family gifts us things we don't need too! :) Gas card in lieu of food money??

Please consider us & Many thanks,
Debi
central
p.s. Happy Birthday!

Ok, I'm a single father struggling to raise 2 kids on my own so everylittle bit helps.
I'm also a Southern boy, 5th generation Texan, My Mamaw was from Tennessee and she made biscuits and gravy EVERY Sunday morning. She also canned alot of preserves(mainly Strawberry).
Mamaw died in 1978 but everytime I eat Biscuts and gravy or strawberry preserves it takes me back to when I was a kid. My kids love biscuits as well so I make them every chance I get.
Thanks for your consideration.
Monte

I'm going to give it 24 hours, then make my choice.

I'll post more good ones if I receive them. So far, I'm leaning towards #1

Input is welcome!

I don't expect that this will be.the most clever reply, but I assure
you that I can give these items an econmically challenged stomach or
two. My girlfriend and I quit our jobs in San Diego and moved to
Austin. We love it here but I don't think that we chose the best time
to quit our jobs and move here with nothing but our dog. We are
getting by but as you can see we are exahusting all of the
opportunities that present themselves to us. These two items will
save us for awhile and fill our bellies when times are rough. I can
come pick them up anytime tomorrow. Please call us at XXX.XXX.XXXX if
I am the winner!

Thank you,
Adam and Jessica

Seesh! I never thought my biscuits would be so popular!

Hi... My friend has adopted two grandmothers and
most of their 10 grandchildren... of which about
7 of them live with them... They run in ages from
14 down to nearly 3. A gallon of milk gives each
person about one serving... this would be greatly
appreciated by them. We helped them furnish
their new place via CL and we do other things with
the kids regularly to show them there is a better
side to life if you live the straight and narrow...

I hope they get why/what we are doing some day.

Grandma's are just plain exhausted... but the kids
in general are very good kids.

so best one gets it huh?

so the question is then what makes it the best?

fist I'll give you the actual reason for interest in this, I like free stuff! It's pretty simple. Besides that free food is especially good at the moment since my husband lost his job and even though the $300.- of unemployment we'll soon be receiving is a nice touch, well you know, it just does not quite cover everything else. Besides that we have 4 kids who will happily consume large amounts of jelly and just about any form of bread or equivalent is is on. Besides that I like breakfast.

but does this live up to your standard of "best"? I don't know....

so on to the fictional needs

my car runs on jelly
biscuit mix is an excellent vampire repellent when prepared with a good dose of garlic
i want to use reverse psycology on my floors, if i keep smearing sticky substances on them on purpose maybe they will start cleaning them selves to defy me
The aliens told me to
Some magazine said if i eat biscuit and jelly for a week, i will get the body i had when i was 17!! It must be true!
I am merly trying to prevent this from falling into the wrong hands, just think what would happen if this was smuggled past security at the airport, i shutter at the thought.
alternate pest control if i leave this opened outside my house all the ants will run out of the house and i will them scoop them up and place them safely in their natural habitat.

so did i miss anything?

Wow!

What to do with biscuits.....you put gravy on 'em!

So you're going to give away a bunch of food, huh?

I have to say, that is very very big of you. HUGE KUDOS! Things like this make me believe in some hope for all of us. You'll have a place in someone's heart for sure, provided they are legit and not just trolling for free stuff for sport. Times are getting tougher; the barely-above-the Poverty-Level families are getting thrust cheeks first into Below Poverty Level because everything goes up in price except wages it seems..

As to who to give it to, the choice is yours. If they are legit, they will be very very grateful.

I'll come pick it up and I'll actually show up when agreed upon unlike everyone else on Craigslist. :D

I've gotten 120 replies and counting...

I've found a LOT of good places to give them to.

And a few good stories too. It's making it a tough choice...

I think I'll sleep on it and make my choice in the morning.

That's what I'm thinking...

I just got hate mail for asking for a story in my post.

"sing for my supper eh you arrogant prick?"

Apparently asking for a little effort is too much to ask...

No free breakfast for them...

My thoughts exactly...

I've whittled it down to a long list of local charities, shelters and food drives.

Now I'm trying to pick my favorite one from the group...
