No...when in doubt, I adopt the "It must be there for a reason" mentality.

I was confused though because my 3.8L trans did not have this but the 4.6L did.

i found something like that on my 84 rear end, i took it off, drove down the highway, put it back on drove down the highway then took it off again and drove for a few days to try to figure out what it did, the most i can tell it stops humming sounds and slight vibrations, making it feel like a much better built car. one could probably deduce that from the title of the thing though "vibration dampener"

that thing is like 5 or 10 pounds it would be nice to loose it.

Add more horsepower that's all. If a 68 lincoln could feel as light as a feather when you put your foot into it then yours can too.

imho, Leave it on. It reduces driveline vibrations. Unless your building a race car that needs ever ounce of weight off of it, it will do nothing but help...
