I just replaced my fuel filter and I decided to run a full tank of 87 octane through the car.

On a full tank, I got exactly 230 miles in complete city driving. I drive pretty agressively around town, so this is not 'average' at all. What variables could affect fuel mileage as far as tune goes ? The car is about to get the O2 sensors replaced along with plugs and wires. I drove with a plugged fuel filter for a little too long, and I have a feeling the excessively lean condition might have damaged the o2's.

Only on really hot days does it start to knock on 87, so when I fill it up tomorrow again I will go with 93 to see if the next tank does better.

What sort of mileage are you guys getting in the city and highway ?

My 96 4.6L LX with 4.30's was getting 22 - 24 MPG at 70 - 75 MPH with the A/C on during it's recent road trip. I was running 91 - 93 Octane fuel.

After a few tanks of gas with the chip in the 97:

91 Octane

city driving: 17-19 mpg, agressively driven

Highway driving: 28-29 mpg, motoring along at 75-80 rolling into the throttle, only a few minor OD->3->2 passing sessions.

There is no mixed, and likely won't go on the interstate again. This has all been in the last month, AC on 100% of the time (it is 87 degrees when I leave for work at 6 am).

In the completely stock 89:

ONE highway trip (its last): 22 mpg, easy trip but more than a few OD->3->2 passing sessions since it had to keep up with the 97.

City: 95% WOT (it is a V6...) 13-15 mpg

I bet my wife could get 22-25 mpg in the city in the 97. She gets 21 in the 2000 Grand Marquis, and it has 2.73 gears so you need to drive it a little more aggressive to keep up with traffic, plus it has more miles on it.

I've only checked my mileage once.
~20.5 mpg...this was on a day trip to Dallas and back with very little WOT. Don't have any city driving data.
AED supercharger with 3.73 gears, 30# injectors, 190# fuel pump and using 93 octane.

with my 3.73 and tune and running 89+ octane fuel I get 17-21 at all times usually about 19 did see 22 almsot 23 once on a long trip but never got anything spectatular even though other v8 cars and of course v6 cars have. I usally don't drive too hard but even if I got light on the foot not much changes.

I just filled up my car with 18 gallons of Chevron 93, and I am going to record my combined mileage to see where it comes up at.

Engine: 4.6L
Gears: 3.27
Overall Average MPG: 25.1
Aggresive city driving only MPG: 19
Best MPG: 26 MPG
Fuel Used: Safeway 91 octane
Miles per tank average: ~430
Mileage on the engine: Approx 30-45K (said 10K or less when I got it) but I dont fully believe that. I have put 17K on it.

I usually keep my gas receipts and write my mileage on them, but I havent calculated it out since I got the j-spec trans as it wont shift at all. These numbers are with a 02 PI engine, marauder converter, a BOC xcal2 on the 87 tune and a near death trans, it was slipping hardcore. I havent gotten the 3.73s in to see how it affects my numbers

97 4.6L with:true duals and high flow cats, steeda pulleys, maruder TC, J-mod, SCT 4 switch chip, and 03' cobra wheels.

City on Economy tune 87 onctane-15mpg Highway-20/21 just depends on how fast i feel like driving

City on Street tune 93 octane (what I run a majority of the time)-13mpg Highway-17/18 just depends on speed.

I recently got 30mpg freeway doing about 75 all the way on a 160mile trip and thats with two WOT on ramps and one or two WOTs passing the sunday drivers. I get about 19mpg city and I'm a semi-agressive driver. O yea and my plugs and wires haven't been changed in 3 years!

Engine: 4.6L
Gears: 3.08
Overall Average MPG: 23 with 70%highway, and 30% town. Aggressively driven.
Fuel Used: Shell 87
Comments: 173,xxx miles on the engine and trans. trans slipping extremely bad, and this is running low pressure in the rear tires for traction reasons.

Haven't had a chance to drive mine too much yet, but in the 780 miles I've driven so far I've filled up 3 times and averaged 24.8 mpg. Best tank was Interstate at 75mph I got 28.7 mpg and worst was following a friend at around 90 mph I got 20.2 mpg. Dead stock 96 4.6L.
