My car is a stock 5.0 with an aod. I'm wondering if 2400 stall would be plenty. It brake stalls at 2200 with a supposed 1800 converter and its a dog off the line. Post your combo and how the converter makes it feel.

I run a 2800 in my 4r70w. It is going to get changed for a 3500 as soon as I change engines.
AOD transmissions are completely different from 4r70w transmissions. Every time I have seen someone install a real high stall converter(3000) into one the transmission did not last long unless it was rebuilt and upgraded. The direct clutches and OD band in them just can't keep up. My general recommendation for those transmissions is less than 2500 stall with direct drive deleted.

I'm gonna see a bigger rpm drop with the 4r70w guts I'm installing. Figure if I can get the shift timing right and make the 3-4 shift not slide-bump it will last. Thing that scares me about a non-lockup is even normal 3-4 shifts break the shaft with a damper between the 2 shafts. No w.o.t. 3-4 shifts allowed. Once the two shafts are basically locked together something has to give if shift timing isn't perfect. 3rd gear still has 40% converter slippage factored in with a lockup converter, non lockup has full slippage for 3rd. Non lockup will be more durable then if I resist shifting into overdrive unless just cruising. Got a 28,000 lb plate style cooler and a new in the box valve body too :) [btw if anyone wants a brand new valve body for an aod they are $50.00 till they run out] Shouldn't have started buyin stuff maybe a Mazda 5 speed would be cheaper.

i am trieng to decide on my stall speed, i was thinkin of the marauder, but maybe a 3200 or so, im worried about the traction that i will have. what stall would be best for a daily driver that sees some stop light runs and some drag strip runs, with 275 width street tires, pi swapped, 3.73's, and nitrous.
