I've never really messed with auto trans before.

What kind of change should I notice with a marauder TC from a daily driver perspective? mileage, launch, crappy for daily driving or better, etc.

I'm asking because I'm doing the 02 explorer swap and thought now would be the time to change.

thanks

i personaly think its a pretty good investment for a daily driven vehicle..if i were going for track apps and all that i would get something different. from the stock converter...its a pretty good difference...my stock one was either going bad or something cause the whole car would shake sometime when the tc wasnt unlocking. for speeds less than like around 45...it feels a lot snappier...my plan so far to make my tranny better...as i have heard from many is to get the J-mod done, the TC changed(which i have in already), a tranny cooler(waiting to be installed) and a tune...i heard the car really feels like a new car if u throw some gears too...like a 3.73

At part throttle, the car will seem almost sluggish, until you get above the stall speed, but when you give it the gas, it'll take off much harder than before.

So, to avoid the sluggishness, would the Mark 8 TC be better for my application?
I also plan on doing the j-mod, cooler, and tune, but it will have to wait coz of the 02 explorer cost.
Will either of the TCs have negative effects until I get this done?

thanks

i would think its the same thing with the mark 8 too, it just has a slightly lower stall speed...about 300 or so...eitherway...the car will be better than stock converter...

It's not a bad sluggishness, it just takes a little more pedal to get the car moving slowly, you'll love the difference.

According to Dan Newman you would use a Mark VIII (mustang same part #) flexplate on either of the TCs. By the way, they are both the same price ($150) and the flexplate is about $50.

Neither of the TCs come with a drain plug.

I decided to go with the Mark TC as a happy medium.

thanks for all the responses.

I don't mean to hijack this thread but I'm new to automatics. I have a 97 MK8. I am wanting a higher stall then the stock TC. My car feels like a Mac truck from a stop until about 4k rpm then it runs like a champ. Is there is factory converter that has a considerably higher stall or is aftermarket the only option?

Thanks
Rob

I belive your only option for OEM TCs is the marauder mentioned above. Might as well go aftermarket.

Yeah I found a 2600 stall thats bigger then the stock converter and price is amazing so I am gonna go with it. Talked to to company and he thinks it should make a tremendous difference especially when I put the 4.30's in the car.

Mach 1 cams, 2600 stall, cobra intake, 4.30 gears. She should move a lot less like a school buss from a stop.

If you are getting a 2600 stall, you might want to really look at the Marauder converter, min stall is 2550, and it's probably cheaper.
