I have 166,000 km on the clock, and i can't remember when head gaskets usually go around.

they dont go at a certain mileage. they go when they go. monitor your cooling system and temp gauge regularly.

generally speaking, as long as the car dosent overheat, they will not blow. but once it over heats even once...say good bye to the Hg's. I'd replace the thermostat, the hoses, and coolant(Add in some "water wetter" or similar product, royal purple's is pretty nice) replace the waterpump and belt and make sure the radiator and fan are in good condition and working properly. Other than that...watch the water temp gauge(make sure the sender works well..mounted on the driverside of the engine on the upper intake(right above the thermostat housing) and you shouldnt have any problems.

Change your antifreze no more than every other year. Do a pressuer check on your radiator. I've had 2 T-birds with 3.8s where the radiator was rotted out, but no one noticed it.

With the engine cold I just poped the cap off of the radiator, and it started to spew out coolant, it was very dark green and thick, is this just because its old?

was the engine running? i would drain and flush your cooling system.

I will flush it, but it just that I have never seen something like that before. Along with replacing motor mounts
Transmissions mounts
Door hinges
power window motor rebuild
change oil
change diff fluid
change transmisson fluid
fix cracked distributor
replace spark plugs and wires
replace brakes
and convert to stainless steel braided instead of that rubber garbage brake hose (where can I get some)

coolant flush has to be somewhere in there.

oh... and I almost forgot a new windshild

I've got a theory (completely untested) that the t-stat is a contributing factor of blown headgaskets. I cant claim this is true but consider adding the t-stat to your list.

will do, also another quick question, upon opening my cap to the power steering fluid I found that it was overfilled and it looks like oil that has been over used, as in thick tar black kind of oil, I take it, this is not normal, how do I do a power steering flush?
