To put a 4.6 out of a 2000 Police Crown Vic in my Cougar, and just have it run well? Since I cracked the oil filter adapter where the pressure sensor screws in (DOH!), and Ford wants $190 for a new one, I found a Crown Vic engine fairly cheap. On the other hand, I could just take the Filter adapter off the engine (assuming I get it) and patch my engine up for now... Would I be able to just drop it in with my stock ignition, fuel rails and injectors, and wiring harness?

I did the exact same thing!!! Actually not me, but the fools that installed it split the housing.

Try hitting the salvage yards for the adapter. I got mine for $10. I don't think the yards know the price from Ford on those items. Oh, and get a new gasket, you'll need it. I'd also recommend the lower radiator hose, since you're there anyway, but I'm not sure on the price for that.

The install is a PITA. Almost everything is in the way!! But it is possible, just take your time.

Good luck.
