I prefer Victoria Secret's myself - atleast the models look good. hehe.. Sorry, couldn't resist.
If you can get a Ford bra or a LeBra are two good brands that I know of. Colgan is another I think. I had a LeBra hood protector for a while. I don't have a full front end bra, nor do I want one. Main reason is because water can get trapped back there along with dirt and stuff. For what I know, LeBra is a good brand and if you can find a Ford bra. Hope it helps.
**After looking back at the post after I read it, it did say Car bra and not just Bra. Oh well - was a mildly humorous joke at the moment. Enjoy it anyway.
I saw a few pics of your car with the hood protector, but none with an actual bra on the car. Any brand hood protector will sit pretty snug. It's the bra itself I'm trying to see.
I was told that the quality of LeBra is worse than Wolf, Carcraft, and Colgan. Personally, I was always a fan of LeBra. They are the ones that seem to have a good fit. Then, I saw Colgan. It comes with a 5 year warranty and an opening for the front license plate. I found a place that sells Colgan for $100 with shipping.
So, unless someone has any negative feedback on Colgan, then that's what I'll order.
I would say that no bra is the best bra. This goes for both cars, and women alike.
I had a bra on my old 90, and it faded the paint under the bra. This kinda ticked me off, now all my birds are bra-less.
I'm not saying that you shouldn't get a bra, but I would say to take it off every time it rains, and take it off every night, to avoid any fading.
So, Jim when are we all getting together for another big meet like last year in Albany? Kinda funny, I am wearing my "flying low in albany" tshirt right now. Let me know if you have any good NY meet ideas. We gotta do something this summer, my car has come a long way since you saw it last, and I'm sure yours has a few tricks also.
Long time no see for sure. I'm thinking of heading up to Connecticut this saturday. We should see a big turnout. That is IF I get the bra in time. I really hate the idea of covering up chipped paint. I want to get it repainted, and have it done right this time.
I haven't done that much to the bird since Albany either. School swallows lots of money.
I've got my J-Mod done by A-Train and a tranny cooler. I also had the bird tuned by Jerry back in December. Oh, and I got a head unit to start my system. I've been running short on money since January. I'm planning on 3.73's this year and hopefully a one piece driveshaft.
I feel bad about not being at Carlisle Sunday June 2nd. I was really looking forward to seeing you and Shawn.
You're right about the bra. I would have to take it off pretty often to clean and wax the area around it. I will be commuting to school this year, and that means 100 miles will be put on the bird twice a week. If I get the bumper redone by then, I want to be sure that it's protected for the highway trips.
Do you have any pics of the bra installed on the car by any chance? Also, is there a reason you're not using the bra itself, if you don't mind me asking? And does it have a front license plate opening? Thanks.
Yeah I haven't been on the boards cause I've been really busy with school, I try to visit once in a while. Sorry Jim, I don't have a picture of the Bra, It does have the license plate opening (you can order the Colgan Bra with or without license opening, and with or without fog light opening. The reason i don't use the bottom part of th bra is because I don't want it to take away from the look of the car if you know what i mean. It's up to you if you like to puit it on or not, I ordred the full Bra (top and Bottom) just in case i changed my mind........As far as the Bra ruining the paint, well i don't see any problems. I followed the advise of other members when I got the Bra. I take i off every time i wash the car and then I wax the area where the Bra is going to sit before I put it back on, you don't have to take it off every time it rains.
I don't know if you remember when we were in E-Town I showed you the rock chips on the front of my hood, that's why i got the bra, and it looks excellent.
Hope this helps Jim (ps;have you found out how to get the rear view mirror to stay on permanently)
Were you the one who told me that yours was falling off because of the bass? I never looked into it. Mine comes off easy but without the part that's glued to the windshield. It doesn't bother me really. I was concerned about it not snapping into place, but it never falls off on its own.
I thought about getting a bra for my 'bird, but after I saw the experience my brother had with the bra on his Stratus, I decided against it. That thing trapped all kinds of water and dirt underneath it. The nose of his car was getting all scratched up; to avoid it, he was going to have to take it off every couple of nights and clean it up. He decided it wasn't worth it - and I did, too.
Ok I've had 3 different Bras on my '92 Cougar and here's my opinion. First I bought a wolf cause it was the cheapest, I soon found out why. The thing didn't fit well and flapped out in front of the grille and the hood part would flap if I drove faster than 40mph and it took forever to dry out also I'm glad I didn't have fog lights at the time because I woudn't have been able to use them. The cut out for the front liscense plate was noticably bigger than the plate bracket so it looked strange. Next I bought a Lebra since I was tired of the Wolf. It fit really nice though not as easy to put on and take off as the Wolf (its only redeeming quality)it never flapped except once the hood part did but that was my fault. If the Lebra was left on after a rain it dried very quickly especially if you drive the car some. The Lebra has a different material than Wolf or Ford so it breathes which enables it to dry quickly. The opening for the front liscense plate was perfect. Lastly I bought a Ford bra on ebay brand new for $20. I bought it because I had an accident last year and it tore the Lebra and because it was cheaper than $60-$70 for a Lebra. Ok the Ford bra fits real nice and it has the word Cougar on the hood piece. Unfortunately it is made out of pretty much the same material as the Wolf so it doesn't dry to well and the tabs that slide under the grille and headlights don't always stay completely snug. One thing I find odd with this bra is the liscense plate opening it's too big, this is strange since it was made by Ford. So finally I would say the Wolf is the worst all around and the Ford and Lebra are real close as far as fit. Personally I like the Lebra best.
Thanks for all your info guys!
I've come to a decision, finally. It looks like Colgan is the way to go for me. I called up a local place after seeing their number on a site that accepts returns with no questions asked. Colgan comes with a 5 year warranty and if I don't like the fit, I can simply return it. I spoke with their rep over the phone and he said that there are a bunch of options with Colgan. The most important one for me is having a front license plate opening, and the foglight openings.
I'm supposed to be starting a new summer job Friday, so there is no telling whether they'll want me there on Sat. the 20th. I didn't want to make any promises about the Ct meet before I was sure that I could be there. So I decided not to go. I hope everyone who does make it to Ct. Saturday has a blast!!
