dont think you want to punch a hole in the pan. you can buy a drill bit at most industral supply houses. is the oil pan on the 4.6 steel or alum if it is stamped steel you wont be able to tap it with threads, alum may have enough thinkness to tap but i dont know!

Well, you can tap the steel pan. When you use a punch Via the Vortech instructions, you make a bullet hole looking hole in the pan. Where the inside of the pan is flared inward, so that when you use the tap, the threads are cut into the flare on the inside. Vortech knows what they are doing. I have tried Sears, home depot, lowes, tool cribs in the area, ACE hardware, auto zone, advance auto...the works. Nobady has them. Chris

Sorry not trying to flame but it sound like a leak looking for a place to happen to me.
Get a 1/2 drift punch to make it intial hole than get 6 inch long 9/16 bolt cut the threads off and grind it to a taper using the 1/2 punch for a guide. Then enlarge the hole with the home made punch.

I'm not exactly sure what kind of punch you're looking for, but I'll bet McMaster-Carr has something that will work. Like I first heard years ago, if McMaster-Carr doesn't have it, you don't need it. :D

Just FYI, Paxton Automotive(Vortech's sister company) has an excellent tool for punching the pan, it is included in some of their SUV kits, but it is available seperately by calling Paxton, 1-888-9PAXTON.
