I'm looking around to find a Mustang GT Transmission to buy, in good condition with as little miles as possible. It is seemingly impossible to find one with this specifications for under $1,000. Does anyone have any recommendations as to where I would go to find a decent "A" Grade one?

If you buy from car-part.com and know someone local with a shop. Shipping/transport is free. I bought a 98 mark trans a few years ago from a salvage yard in Wisconsin and had it delivered to my Uncles shop (Chicago) for no cost.

To bolt any of these Trannys up to my 4.6, what all would I need to buy in addition to the transmission? I want something that won't crap out on me like this Stock Tranny did.

Check this. That is not a fully accurate statement. Ask the particular vendor what their shipping policies are.

Talk with Darrin about what he can do for you in your price range. . . .I don't know what you are looking to spend, but he may be able to fix you up within your price.

Not true, I have a wholesale account with LKQcorp and Greenleaf.

Freight is not free.

Maybe the sales rep gave you a deal, and discounted the amount to make it seem like freight was free, but no thats not how it goes.

Also guys, when you call LKQcorp or Greenleaf, get a price, then make the rep an offer on the phone.

They have alot of room to play with on prices, beleive me.

With a stock motor, and a good cooler, I would run one of these transmissions exactly how they come.

I'd trust a low mileage ford oem unit versus something that a shop rebuilt.

I'm not referring to Darrin, I'm referring to just joe blows transmission shop "rebuilding" your transmission.

If you have the bucks, take it to Darrin, or someone who will build it to Jerrys specs. That is a no brainer.

But if you are going on the cheap, you can get a late model unit for 300 bucks, and put it in, that would be a great upgrade, plus you get the new converter.

I guess I got lucky twice then. I ordered (2) '98 mark transmissions, on seperate occasions, from the same place. I paid the price that was listed on the internet.

When he asked where the transmission was being delivered he told me if it is a residence I would be charged frieght and if it was going to a Autoshop it would be no charge. I was dealing with LKQ. I didn't understand it myself, but I wasnt going to complain :D

btw-The trans came from Southern Wisconsin to Northern IL, so it was less than 100 miles. Maybe that had something to do with it? It was also delivered on a LKQ flatbed truck, it was not packaged, crated etc.

Yep thats called a local delivery.

They do those kind of delivery's for free.

If it has to go on a freight truck, trust me they pay for it.

It usually goes on a con way truck.

You could always see if there is a pickup option - go get it yourself.
There is a 4R70W in my garage that got here that way.

you need to swap over your MLPS, TCC, VSS, and the shift lever. at least thats what i swapped. best bet is to replace the TCC, cus mine fried about three weeks after the trans swap....which sucked cus i had to tear the pan back off and get covered in merc V to replace it. The TCC is a cheap part so just spend the money on it. you also know about the repinning the connector if its a 98+ trans right paul?
