I will be getting some new rear drag wheels and I'm curious if anybody is running a 15" wheel that's wider than 8". I borrowed a 16 x 8.5" wheel to do some test fitting and it looks like anything wider than 8" will hit the upper control arm.

If you are running 15x8 or wider, what is the backspacing or offset?

I'm running 18x9's all the way around with no issues. They are not drag wheels but that shouldn't make a difference.

Have you checked with Brad (cudaz101)?

i'm running 5.5" back spacing with a 15x8 weld pro star. upper control arm is the limiting factor. you best bet would be to switch to a live axle with ladder bars if you need a wider wheel. that's the direction i'm going.

If you go larger than a 15" you can fit wider than 8" width. As stated above I have also used a weld wheel with 5.5" back space with an 8" width and had very little clearance. If you go up in diameter you can clear the upper control arm

I was hoping to stick with a 15" drag wheel since there is a greater selection in tires, than there is with 16" wheels.

I know Brad was working with Holeshot on a drag option for us, but I haven't seen any updates for a few months.

No live axle for me. I'll have to work around the IRS because I won't be giving that up.

Yeah, definately interested in a 16x9 or 16 x 9.5 (not sure on exact clearance for backspace)

I believe diamond racing offers a 16x10 with 6" backspace for the IRS-Terminator guys. I believe they also offer a version with larger backspace, but I don't know if either will clear.

I'm running the stang bolt circle so it may be worth a try.

how did you get the mustang bolt circle? the 5X4.5" I was told mine on a 1995 bolt circle is a 5X4.25" I asked about an adapter to change them up from jegs and summit both and they were both a no go...

pm me more info on this please?

soprry, not trying to hijack this thread. there are several options on the 16" wheels, along with drag tires out now... migh want to double check because I also saw a lightning with a
16" wheel and an et drag tire on it, and it looked dinky on his truck...

94-04 mustang front hubs and brakes, they are a direct bolt on. In the rear use 99-04 irs cobra hubs and redrilled tbird rotors in the rear or adapt the cobra brakes. There is a tech article on the site somewhere.

Yes, I used cobra rotors with adapter plates to mount the calipers at a slightly different offset for the rotor.

The rear hubs have to be pressed-in; My street rims are the 98 cobra 17x8, and the offset is perfect.

MY 95 HAS 16X 10 All the way around [ 90 corvette wheels with spacers 6in back spacing] and 15x 10 weld prostars for the 1/4mile.

So what size spacer?

Your rear wheel has a 6.0 back-space, without including the spacer?
Or 6.0 backspace including the spacer?

I.E. a 1/2" spacer would then change the backspace to 5.5", unless your including that in your figure.

Teeps, i went out this morning and tore my wheels off and measured everything for ya.This is what i have with no rubbing problems.
95 BIRD with 90 corvette wheels i converted to GM bolt pattern, 16x10 with 6 7/16 backspacing and 1in wheel spacers . Wheels dont stick out past the fenders and they dont rubb anywhere. I had to machine the front spindle upright just slightly so the rubber sidewall fouldnt flex and rubb. The rear is a perfect fit. If you use a 15in wheel you may need to move the rear swaybar endlink. good luck with yours .
