Hello All,
1st time poster, recent TBird buyer. I have read most of the way through the postings on exhaust and have not seen this. In putting a Tbird shorty header next to a Mustang shorty header from JBA the main difference I saw was The TBird has 2.25 collector instead of a 2.5. This to me is a rather large advantage. I realize the human eye cannot tell. I wonder if anyone has put the Mustang shorty's on a 5.0 Tbird?
So much to absorb. so much to do.

Thanks for the help

Nope, unfortunately they won't. There are currently only two choice for headers for the 5.0 MN12 and they are from JBA and Mac. Neither are great for performance since they are a stock replacement.

So is there enough advantage to make it worth it. Those exhaust look awfully restrictive. Thanks for your quick reply.

Thanks

Sure, both will help. The JBA part is a better made part but is more restrictive because of it's heavier materials. However, if you put those on and replace the rest of the exhaust with something far less restrictive then it will help a good bit on your 5.0.

theres always porting
Porting of what? The stock headers on the 5.0 MN12's are indeed headers. They aren't cast iron manifolds so there is no real port of them. The aftermarket headers are also just steel tubing so I'm not so sure there is any porting that you could do that would accomplish anything there either.

Well, if you are into doing things custom, I've been there and done that. Check out the 5.0/5.8 forum for a thread that talks about installing long tubes.

They won't be plug and play for sure. You will have to create custom downtubes. Now you may be able to work that out without relocating the steering shaft but there is no guarantee. If you look in the 5.0 Forum, there is a sticky there for putting long tubes on that are from a 86-93 Mustang automatic. Check that out.

You can always get one of those "build your own headers" kits out from Jegs or Summit. I have never done it myself but it seems like a way that could work if you got the pipes to go around the shaft, and have a buddy who can weld.

sounds like someone around here needs to make up/alter some good large headers to fit these cars and sell them at a profit. There seems to be more and more pushrod guys doing things with the MN12s. I would like to see 1 3/4" (302 and 351) long tubes that fit and don't require messing with the steering shaft.

If only I had the time....

I did look into this a couple of years ago, but people balked at paying $500 plus for headers.
