IIRC All 8.8 gears will work. Didnt matter if it was IRS or not. Only the carrier was different.

He's just trying to make the sale....it won't be 100% right for IRS.

Fairly hot topic in this section; a Search would be easy and tell you everything you need to know about IRS TLs vs. non-IRS TLs. :)

If people are looking for IRS Trac-Lock units, you can contact Mike at 717-314-4204 or email him at streetrodtk*[email protected]*yahoo.com . He rebuilt mine from a 1996 LX with 8 clutches instead of the factory 6. His product looked great, it looked brand new. You can also buy new factroy units from SCP.

Bill does have a good price on brand new OEM units and they are machined for IRS use. I am cheap so I buy good used mustang units on ebay from guys who are swapping to 31 spline, then machine them and use them. Used units usually need the pinion gear spacers (rob them from your open unit) a new cross pin and bolt and a new s-spring.

Look online or go to a dealership for the speedo gear. Some dealerships are more helpful than others when it comes to ordering/buying parts that don't come up as 'stock replacement parts' on their computer for your vehicle.

I'm no expert on these cars, but I've got some experience with others and that sounds like something isn't right. 8.8 seconds with gears? What does anybody else think?

For comparison, stock advertised 0-60 time on a 1996 TBird LX is 7.9 seconds...
