Please note to those of you that it affects, the settlement is final. I did not think the court would rule so soon based on the history of this thing, but claimants have until 16 Mar 06 to submit claim.

http://www.fordmanifoldsettlement.com/

Website has the information and the VIN covered. Read up on how you submit for reimbursement for your manifold if you haven't already done so...

Going to the dealer today to see if they have been notified. Anyone else speak to their dealer about this? I wasn't able to find a fordealer website to see if they info about this. The Ford.com website didn't show anything.

Thanks for keeping us up to date White30th.

Hmmm, my bird qualifies for this and the intake did crack, but I replaced it with a PI intake. Wonder if the will still pay me. Guess I will have to try and find out...

I found my VIN in the list for thunderbirds!

Thanks for the update.

imagine the dealer inspection is to look for the aluminum crossover. If you replaced it yourself, I'm not sure they can reimburse labor. Never know until you try. So far the dealer has denied knowledge of the class action settlement, but the the girl I spoke to at the service counter is new and thought I was talking about the 7 year replacement campaign, which missed by car by a few months, which is the whole purpose of the lawsuit that Ford lost. My intake cracked in back by the heater core outet, so I may not be covered since it didn't crack at the coolant crossover.

Umm... According to that page, this only applies to Birds and Cougars produced AFTER some date in 97'.... We have two 96s that had this problem... Think they will refund us aswell?

You need to check your VIN number to see if your car qualifies. That will be the indicator. That VIN number is found at the site I provided earlier.

I brought my car to the dealer on Thursday last week. They said they knew all about the settlement and most importantly for everyone else, they said it was in OASIS, so all Ford dealers should have access to that. Important because the window of opportunity is only for 90 DAYS from the settlement date, 16 December.

On mine, they can't find the leak...yeah, right. I did mention at the outset that I'd been nursing the car along with Bars Leak as my mechanic told me after pressure testing the system. That stuff works real well...apparently. Of course, the brown radiator fluid is a dead giveaway. Waiting today to see what they come up with...though they said they would work with me! I'm off to district headquarters if the dealer pronounces my car fit and they don't replace the manifold. At least I'll have tolled the time limit with my receipt in hand!

Yeah, this settlement ONLY applies for cars built after 6/97! These cars also had the infamous plastic intake but were not covered under the original 7 year replacement TSB. But these intakes still cracked even though they were "reinforced" versions. So thats why the settlment was started. And all I had to do was show my "original" reciept for the work and I got my full MAX refund of $735.

I called and the dealer said they submitted my info for the reimbursement. They said Ford cuts them the check and they then cut one to me. Sounds like the dealer gets a piece of it befor eI do. My bill was for $549, so I imagine that is all I'll get back. Would be nice to get the $735 though. I'll be happy just to get a refund for what I spent.

Called the dealer. They said they mailed the check and I should have it in a day or so. I should've asked them how much it was for, but I didn't want to seem greedy.

I can't believe the settlement was only for the late 97 cars. I have a 97 not included on the list that cracked the original and was replaced for free under warranty for the first owner.

Then the replacement cracked shortly after we bought it, in 2000 or 2001, but the dealer wouldn't replace it again for free since it was already replaced once under warranty. However, before I knew about the problem, they did replace the radiator to fix the coolant leak problem. God damn dealership service centers = code reading parts changers.

Finally got my independent mechanic, who I trusted, to replace it and he suggested the upgraded aluminum crossover manifold.

Yea, Ford should of just went with the aluminum crossover right away! But instead they tried a "reinforced" version the plastic one for a while, but then realized that it still isn't going to work! So they screwed alot of people by reinstsalling ANOTHER plastic intake that is bound to crack. All it did was add on some more time. My mom actually still has the reinforced intake on her bird for about 3,5 years now. But i'm sure it will crack in due time. Then she will be screwed because ford won't do anthing about it except charge her an arm and a leg to replace it with the NEW alum crossover version, even though it is still their fault! So while some people like others and I in this thread are "making out" or at least getting a refund for the work done, there are still those people out there steaming because theirs cracked again!

Saddest part is, Ford isn't notifying owners and we only have a 3 month window to get our refund. If your request isn't in by March 2006, too bad, your out. The only way for people to know about the reimbursement is these forums and a few obscure news reports.

No. You just have a great excuse to go get a PI manifold. Your car was covered under the intake "campaign" for 7 years from the manufacturing date. The settlement is for those if us '97 owners who had to pay to replace our intakes and were not covered under the campaign because our cars were made after July 1997. My intake cracked in 2002, but my car was made in September of 1997. I had to pay $550 to replace my intake because we didn't know the PI intakes would fit at that time. i did get the aluminum corssover though.

I'm trying to figure out how I can locate a receipt, the ones I have are for intake manifolds but I want more than $30 from Ford. Dealer told me since it was beyond 7 years from beginning of the warrenty period I need a reciept.
