I need to install a pump bushing in a 4R70W destined for my ‘68 Mustang. On another forum it was suggested that not only should I stake the front bushing in the typical two locations, but also on the rear—gears side.
I would need to notch pump, but it seems with the standard 0.700” width bushing would be too shallow for that. So my questions…
1. If I want to notch the back, seems there is also a wider bearing that fits multiple applications and noted to be 0.760” wide. Is this correct…? See the pics below.
2. If I use the standard 0.700” wide bushing, stake it and use, say 648 Loctite sleeve retainer, is that typically good enough to keep it from walking out…?
3. What is the clearance between pump and bushing. I wanted to check with a feeler gauge when placed over the TC
