Is it because I buy the AutoZone lower control arms that they keep failing and nearly killing me? I have had 4 to fail in a span of about 2 years. Today I was turning left into park palace when all of a sudden wham then felt the ball joint grinding into the pavement as I tried getting out of the way of traffic that was approaching rapidly without getting t-boned. Man I'm tired of that happening.

I hadnt heard of anybody with these types of failures until the last couple years.

Is the ball joint the point of failure ?? Same side, or both sides? Assuming you installed these yourself and torqued correctly.

It sounds like you and everybody else should avoid buying these parts from Autozone. I would find out their supplier, and cross reference that to whatever is available on Rockauto these days.

Yeah, Autozone, Advance, Napa, etc. Parts have always been garbage, and you should never cheap out on suspension components.

I always go for OEM if it’s available.

the next best thing would be getting from SCP, some might not agree with me there, but I’ve never had a problem with Bill’s parts.

This is my theory though I have aftermarket wheels on the car which have a different offset than the factories and because of that 1/4-in spacers or on the car with the wheels when I bought it years ago and I but only on the front and I have been running the car without the spacers for like 2 weeks and it started creaking and cracking and all that s*** and then it broke on me this last time the other times it broke with the spacers I was thinking maybe it was the difference in offset with aftermarket wheels but I'm not really sure cuz now I have one and a half inch spacers on it we're going to see how that does LOL

People are quick to swap out the factory wheels, but they are very light wheels. Of the cars I've had in the last 20 years, the T-Bird sawblades are definitely the lightest. Very easy to handle the wheel/tire when rotating them.

One-and-a-half-inch spacer!
