My steering wheel has started to wear out, it's got a couple dark spots where the grey came off. Any ideas on how to fix this? I'd get some leather/vinyl spray, but I don't think they sell my grey color. I also don't want a steering wheel cover, or the leather replacement cover. If I'm left with nothing else, I guess I'll just go through this book for interiors I have that says how to make a cover, but I'd hate to mess it up and have it look crappy.

Anyone have a fix for this? And I'd rather not pay a ton of money for another steering wheel, since I only have a few bucks.

Did you check with an upholstery shop? I need to check on this myself but I'd think they could make you another cover if you took the old one over there...

I'm not talking about spray-can paint, I'm talking about spray vinyl color. This is the stuff used to bring the color of vinyl in older cars back to life. I was reading an aphulstory(sp?) book, as mentioned above, and when they fixed cuts/cracks in leather, like our leather seats, they used vinyl color. The only thing that would be ghetto is if I used the wrong color on it.

Now, if I wanted to take the time, or maybe see my brother take a crack at it, since he's going into car work(interior, exterior) and will be going to WyoTech in a couple years, I could get him started on leather work and tell him to make a leather steeringwheel cover for my car. Maybe in a few years he could get good enough to actually make a raised Cougar head in the leather. That would kikazz. Getting all sorts of new ideas...

There's like one junk yard around my home, which is 20 miles away, but there's almost nothing salvageable in the cars. Mainly, all I go there for is little parts that are like $1-10. All five of the MN12's have been stripped of the parts that are the most wanted, since they've sat there for over 1 year, probably 3 or more. Most of their windows are broke, and the doors and body parts are gone. There might be a chance I can find some in K.C., but I don't go there much. I can try and look on www.car-part.com and see if they list any yards around there.

I've got little nicks and scratches on my wheel. Has anyone used tath "paste" stuff 'as seen on tv'? They sure make it look like a worth while repair on their 'paid advertisement' on the tube. What do you think? My wheel's black so it shouldn't be too hard to match.:)
