Oil in the air intake?

I was working on my bird to take the air silencer out. When I took out the filter I noticed a very small spot of oil. I was wondering why that was there, so I took off the rest of the intake. The whole intake had oil inside of it. I have no idea why oil was in there. I have since cleaned the whole intake. Does anyone know why there was oil though?

It's not uncommon to have oil in the intake, especially on a higher mileage engine. It usually comes from the PCV system. Any blowby that goes into the valve covers gets sucked right into the intake system and then just puddles somewhere in the intake track, in addition to coating the whole inside of the manifold. :(

You would be amazed at how far the oil mist can travel!!

I just bought a Cobra intake for a 4.6L and turned it over and oil literally ran out (all over the floor).

Unless it’s really severe, I wouldn’t worry about it.

bringing this thread back, my intake is covered in oil, the entire intake, and the air filter too.. could this be part of my never ending search for my oil leak? could it be my pcv valve or somthing? please note i replaced the valve cover gasket last week and there is a leek from somewhere else...
