Hello folks, I have a 97 tbird 3.8 and about 6 months ago i noticed that when i turn on the headlights to either parking or headlights the rpm gauge, fuel and temp go crazy. It also happens if i use the cigarette lighter.

I have replaced the light switch and module but issue is still there. I am thinking it is ground related and have begun under the hood cleaning grounds. I am going to work under the dash to locate grounds and clean.

Any other ideas?

Check the ground strap from the engine to the firewall or even easier, ADD a big ground strap from the engine to the firewall! Also, check the ground wire from the ground post of the battery to the radiator support, replace, repair or even add as needed.

And after you do that, triple check the grounds behind the instrument cluster, especially the one to your right, below the cluster, when you pull the cluster.

That's where all three (illumination, gauges, anti-slosh board) ground.

Sounds like that ground's floating.
