So, yes. The 4.6 2V is going. No, i won't change my mind :D
The reason for this is I'm trying to try something relatively new.
The plan so far is:

2011-2014 5.0 Truck motor+PCM
6R80 auto trans
3.55 TL diff
walbro 255 in the tank
TSS billet oil gears
stock K-member
modified stock trans crossmember
mark vii RLCAs+KYB shocks all around
2011-12 Mustang auto shifter assembly
Mustang intake cams, oil pump, timing cover and boss 302 intake manifold(not until after the project is finished)
C5 corvette fuel filter/regulator
180 degree rotated fuel rail(for the fuel lines being on the passenger side)
"stock" fabbed mustang short tube headers'
custom oil pan
PBH accessory bracket for power steering and alternator
custom made intake inlet tube
PBR brakes
AC delete
Corbeau(or whatever aftermarket seating) Race reclining seats
restored interior(black carpet+seats, all new interior parts and some warm white leds for the interior instead of my spur of the moment bs i did for the ricey feel.)
looking at phatbrds sub box as a drop in for my car.

All i can think of at the moment. Bird is in the dismantle stage lol.
After all of this is done and we get shift points and everything down, a VMP supercharger is in order,

Kdanner is helping me with the PCM and tuning part of it, but ill be doing all the rest of it.

I know its a "see and believe" kinda thing, so, im not too worried about it.

In the process of trying to find a truck donor and getting parts together.
And incase you are wondering, I'm keeping IRS:D no pettys garage bs here.

Don't worry Ron, he wants a sissy power adder for his

And no, mine is a Mach 1 DOHC(the Coyote has Powered by Ford Coil covers but mine are from the Ford GT supercar) I WISH it was a Coyote lol

Sounds like an awesome build, I was seriously mulling over going this route until literally a few days ago, moving the Mach 1 swap back on track. I'll gladly not be the Guinea pig in this instance as I found the oil pan to K member clearance as well as the factory headers problematic hurdles. Presumabely the swap pan is for Foxbodies/SN95s, but Foxbodies/SN95 pans on modulars don't fit our K members either. The headers seem quite wide as well, I imagine they have to be QUITE fabbed to clear our narrower engine compartment. Might want to recruit General Zod to help with those ;)

Thanks. He will probably be done first but mine will be cooler:tongue:

If this swap is successfully accomplished, I'll sticky it in ALL the subforums! :)
Thats what talking about.

Best of luck Jonathan..

This is going to be expensive..If you don't plan on finishing this right away I think it is doable..

Have you set up a time frame for the completion of this project?

Rayo..
Less then 8 months, and the budget is falling under 10k. At least before the supercharger.

Fixed it for you ...

Seriously Jonathan, I think you should put the money towards college ... Just my 0.02 ¢ though ... FWIW ...
I've just been realizing how much money I would waste at college right now. I'm not ready for that kinda thing though.
I do like how you guys are very human, you consider my future. It means alot. I feel like most of you are more family then some of my real family.

Also agreed. I'm in my last semester of graduate school and everything adds up quick. Its why I've still got an NA V6.

Yeah, they told me to wait to have my head swap done. No regrets here. I have my bachelors and just started my first full time management position. My schedule is now pretty much screwed for doing anything fun, car related.

No degree here and I still make more than a lot of people I know with a bachelor's. :D "EVERYBODY" seems to tell all the high school kids/grads that they need to go to school. It's not for everyone. Honestly. You need to be the one to decide your own path...

There are so stinkin' many kids coming out of college now a lot of the job markets are flooded and it's hard to get jobs - even WITH advanced college degrees. Nursing and human medicine seem to be the biggest areas out there that suck up all the grads without much fuss.

#24 ·
Yes, a degree is not absolutely necessary but the right degree in the right field can do wonders for a career.

You still need to "go to school" be it college or a trade school. If not you'll be learning in the school of hard knocks.

Engineering is also a hot field. Be it electrical, mechanical, chemical, nuclear, aeronautical, etc. ...

If you want to go the trade route pick a good one and be very good at it. In my work it's electricians, welders, pipe fitters, inspections (What I do), machinists, etc. ...

The bottom line is you want a career not just a job.

The bottom line is you want a career not just a job.
Exactly.

I got out of high school and did NOTHING for about 6 months. When my laptop died I went and got a dead-end job at a Subway and worked there for a little over a year, and decided during that time that I'd attend a local community college for a few credit hours a couple nights a week to get some of the "core" classes (e.g. calculus) out of the way if I did decide to get a degree. I didn't enjoy it very much and ended up not taking classes the next semester.

I then ended up working at a big box home improvement retailer and kept working there for a few years. During that time I decided I would try to focus on IT as a potential career path due to my experience and interest in the field, so I took some more classes at the community college to get a basic certification from the school and an industry backed certification. Once I got that I started looking (passively) for a job in the field, and one of my classmates ended up having some connections that landed me my first job in the educational niche of IT. That job led to the one I have currently - and I've been moving up the ladder (in terms of responsibility/pay grade) pretty quickly - but I'm still not dead-set on this being my career. I'm currently in a transition state between being a field tech and moving up to a system administrator (doing both sucks lol), which normally would require a bachelor's degree.

Don't rush yourself into a career choice right away. You WILL change your mind at some point... but on the other hand - if you get out of high school and don't sign up for some kind of basic classes at school, it will be EXTREMELY difficult to get back "in the swing" and mindset of attending classes again. Ask me how I know. :)

#26 ·
I agree with continuing your education to focus on a career, but that doesnt mean you cant have fun and achieve the project .. just dont get into credit card debt or anything along those lines.

Oh and if I were at a point to purchase a new engine for one of my Tbirds .. the 5.2L Ti-VCT Flat plane crank engine .. FTW.

#28 ·
Thats actually something i considered. But, the lack of any way to buy one, and the fact that im gonna restore as much of this car and do the swap and keep it under $10,000, I didnt see the Voodoo as much of an option. lol.

I work an average 56 hours at the firehouse not including overtime. I have a soon to be 2 year old I have to watch on my days off when I should be sleeping from running calls all night. Thank God for nap time or I'd never get out in the garage to work on stuff or catch up on sleep. Even with out nap time I still make the time to take care of the house, cars and projects. You just have to tell the wife that you need to change out the blinker fluid in all the cars, might take a couple hours, you know? ;)

Jonathan your Dad would be proud, keep up the good work.
That's why I'm doing this now, I want to have spare time.

I know it. I will.

Engineering is where it's at. Ask Oscar. I'm biased towards Civil but Mechanical is probably most versatile. School sucks so hard but when you get out you get a really cool job and clear 50-60k a year right out of college plus great benefits. Many companies will pay your student debt just have to get on with the right ones. I love my job, in the field all day, unless it gets too hot or cold then I can go work inside, get to tell the workers what to do and how stupid they are when they screw up. Get to tell your boss why you cussed out the worker because you know the math and physics behind it and he was going to cost your company big time. Then your boss realizes how important you are. Just don't get a hot air head, keep your head down and know what your talking about. People will respect you for it..

It's fun

Good luck with your project Langton.

I think he just meant that I gravitate towards the sciences because that's what I enjoy. I agree that you should do what makes you happy. As far as making money, engineering has always had a high introductory salary, depending on the field. Engineering, medical, and the computer software/hardware fields will always have high demand. I originally wanted to go to college to get a degree in math and physics for the pure sake of knowledge, because that is what quenches my intellectual thirst. I never planned on going into education, just worked out that way. Of course in the end we all need money, and I enjoy my job and the vacations that come with it. As for $50-60k not being enough, that depends on a lot of factors. If you're the sole breadwinner, married, and you have kids, thats cutting it too close in this day and age. But if you're like me, unmarried, no kids, just normal bills, it ain't too shabby. I get to buy pretty much anything I want within reason. Or course I can't afford a 20HP 5-axis CNC milling machine like I would have liked, but I didn't hesistate to save up for my machine shop that is still growing. That reminds me, I need to drop another $1000 worth of carbide and HSS tooling for it this month. :D

I used to be a math teacher. Just got promoted to Coordinator. I impressed the principal so much with some data analysis that I presented on student testing data last year, that when this new position opened up, I didn't even have to interview. All by doing what I love: crunching numbers and data. What ever you decide to do, be so good that you can't be ignored. It will take you far IMO.

Got some done so far. Got all the "buyable" parts lined up, and trying to find a custom fabricator at the moment.
Got the exhaust off, no trouble at all. Loudest that 4.6 has ever been.
It ran for the last time today, its time to disassemble all of it. battery, exhaust, fluids, all out. Taking the top part of the motor out tomorrow to get ready to get rid of all of it. Only had 2 interested motor buyers, but one dropped off the face of the earth, and the other hasn't gotten back to me today.
If in the next week or so, nothing happens, I'm just gonna part the motor out, and sell the trans individually.
Its coming together pretty nicely.
Hardest points are already known. oil pan clearance, header clearance, wiring and the tiny bit of fabbing I have to have done.
Coming together nicely.

I think it is cool that you are trying something different. Your dad would be proud. :)

10 years ago there was much more activity on this site with lots of mods. Kind of dead over the years, even the Goldbird is for sale.

It is nice to see someone with the time and energy to tackle this. Good luck with the build. I will be following along.

possibly. My work schedule leaves me with little free time at the moment. But I'm sure you'd be able to catch me during my holiday vacations. Gimme a hollar when you snag that Coyote engine. I'd like to get the exhaust port/bolt sizing from the heads. :)
